Herschel 'Guy' Beahm, a.k.a. Dr Disrespect, is also known as the controversial gaming streamer, and this time he is in the news because his YouTube channel was demonetised amid accusations of him having sent controversial messages to a minor back in 2020. But after 5 long years, on January 30, 2025, his YouTube account was reportedly remonetised.
Additionally, on the same day, the Midnight Society, the game studio Herschel co-founded, seemingly left after the scandal and the closure of his channel. Later, in 2020, Twitch banned the Doc permanently; however, his channel was demonetised, and due to this he could no longer generate money through the ads.
YouTube ads are the main source of income for a lot of YouTube content creators. But Herschel announced that he would be reapplying for the remonetization on January 30, 2025, which has brought YouTube's 'Communities' feature into the spotlight.?
However, Beahm denied any wrongdoing, but he admitted that he sent messages to an 'individual minor' in 2017, reported BBC. Amid all of this, YouTube has announced a rollout of its 'Communities' feature that allows more creators to engage directly with their audience.?
YouTube has announced a broader rollout of its Communities feature, allowing more creators to engage directly with their audience. The Communities feature was originally introduced at the Made by YouTube 2024 event. This feature was particularly designed to boost creator-subscriber interactions by offering a dedicated space for discussions and updates.?
Subscribers now can participate by reacting to the posts, leaving comments, and interacting with the channel owner, fostering a sense of community.
The main aim of YouTube to expand the communities is to position itself as the go-to platform for creator-fan interactions. It will also reduce the reliance on external platforms like Discord, Reddit, and other social media forums.
This decision has come after receiving positive feedback from an initial test group of creators, as per YouTube's official blog post. YouTube also clarified its decision in a statement provided to PC gamers. In an official statement, it said Dr Disrespect was earlier suspended from the YouTube program for violating their Creator Responsibility policies.?
It further noted that creators who are suspended from this program can reapply for access after a careful review of the channel's recent activity. ^We've reinstated it. If there are further violations, we'll take appropriate action, ̄ the statement added.?
