One of the many reasons people relocate and move to new places is the increase in work opportunities, the desire to live in less densely populated areas, and the desire to live more affordably. Moving is neither enjoyable nor inexpensive, as we all know, but planning can make it better when moving on a tight budget.
When trying to cut costs during a move, it's important to avoid making extra, pointless purchases as well. Here we are back with yet another edition of #It's Time series, in which you'll find all the information you need to move more affordably. We also spoke with people who live alone in various parts of India and manage their frequent relocations while saving something.
Although it takes work, keeping expenses down and making the most of your time can ultimately be beneficial. These moving budget tips from people who are living alone in parts of India will help you relocate affordably and successfully:
Organizing your relocation and saving time is one of the best methods to reduce moving costs. Put pen to paper as soon as you realise you must relocate and make a list of everything you need to accomplish. The earlier you plan your move, the more money you'll save.
Appurva Sharma, who is a health care professional and has travelled to and lived in different cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad for work, says: "One should always plan in advance when relocating. People who live alone have many options for saving and playing smart, as I did. People should request that their employers provide new employees with at least a brokerage amount when they relocate to take up a position. Always ask for it. There is no harm in asking for it."
"One should also prefer unfurnished flats because they have lower rents, and if they are relocating for work, ask their new company to pay the basic amenities costs, such as cabs, movers, and packers' services," Sharma added.
Sorting through your possessions and separating the items you no longer need is one of the most important things to do while preparing to move. Ankit Goel, who is basically from Mathura and has lived in New Delhi and Mumbai for years now, says, "In case I have bigger items such as an old refrigerator or washing machine, I would prefer to sell them before I move to a new place as this reduces the price of a big truck when I book any movers and packers services as these are exorbitant and I don't have much luggage to carry, so I prefer a taxi mostly."
You may significantly reduce your moving expenses by choosing this method. Yeshi, an Arunachal Pradesh native and media professional working in Delhi, shared her experience and stated that she uses tempo services when relocating within the same city. "I buy cartons, pack everything, and hire a tempo. If the distance is short, Thela-wala can also be used." She said she avoids hiring a moving and packing service as she lives alone and it is always good to pack the stuff by herself. She even added, "It's best to pack on your own instead of hiring professionals."
Akom Don Emma, who lives in Itanagar now after staying in New Delhi for years, said, "I stayed in Delhi for about 5 years. I didn't have much stuff because I mostly lived alone in 1-bedroom apartments. Everything I brought was crammed and tucked into a Thela or a cab, saving me money on porter services. I limited my spending before leaving an apartment to cover the security deposits.
The fewer people who assist you when packing your belongings, the better. The more people who help with packing, the more difficult it will be to find anything later on.?
Purbita Bhattacharjee, from Kolkata, says, "I then try to find apartments using social media, like flats and flatmates. You don't get much of a broker's intervention there. Then I try to send at least 50 percent of my things via 'e courier' services. It keeps my luggage from being overweight. Also, I can send a hefty amount of stuff through these kinds of services."??
Boxes are the foundation of a successful move, but if you're moving on a tight budget, the price can quickly mount. Although some movers charge for them, there are several ways to get all the boxes you need for nothing. Here are a few ideas: relatives and friends, grocery shops, and department stores.?
Budgeting for a move can be challenging because the price of bubble wrap and packing paper can add up depending on the size of your move.?Try using linens, towels, and everyday clothing to wrap fragile objects to completely eliminate these expenditures.
Newspaper or plastic shopping bags can also be used in place of packing material.
Remember, if you are extremely impressed with rent pricing in any city or area, the other things could be expensive. So plan the city and localities accordingly. When looking for a reduced cost of living, you should take other factors into account in addition to rent. States, counties, and cities can all have quite different costs and facilities. To get an idea of what to expect, look up the average cost for each and the location(s) you've chosen.
Also, remember to take your lifestyle into account: Have a pastime or workout regimen that you can't live without? Will you require child care, specialised medical attention, or restaurants that provide your kind of food??
With all the tips and tricks above, we wish you a happy and cheaper move!
