India witnessed a historic and proud moment last Friday when it successfully launched its moon mission Chandrayaan-3, prompting congratulatory messages from across the world.?
With the launch of Chandrayaan-3 on July 14, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will attempt to land a spacecraft on the Moon for the second time. If it succeeds in doing so, India will become only the fourth nation after the US, Russia and China, to achieve the feat.
While we all know that it was ISRO's mission, not many of us are aware of the hard work and contributions of many other startups and companies that worked behind the successful launch of Chandrayaan-3 for many years.

"L&T is playing a critical role in the launch of LVM3 M4 Chandrayaan Mission. In a hallmark achievement, L&T has been involved in this mission starting from manufacturing of subsystems till mission tracking," the company had said last week, as per BQ Prime report.
The critical booster segments, namely head end segment, middle segment and nozzle bucket flange, with a diameter of 3.2 metres were manufactured and proof pressure tested at L&T¡¯s Facility in Powai.?
Other contributions to the mission include the supply of ground and flight umbilical plates, manufactured from L&T¡¯s hi-tech Aerospace Manufacturing Facility at Coimbatore. L&T also has been playing a key role in the system integration of Launch Vehicle for the Indian Space Programme, the company had stated.
Hindustan Aeronautics also played a role in the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, as per Mint. Several components were supplied to National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) by it, which provided key support for the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

¡°Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has achieved the unique milestone of supplying its 100th battery to ISRO for its very important and critical mission, Chandrayaan 3," said an official statement by the company, as per New Indian Express.
The Department of Space (DoS) and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2020 to assist NSIL in identifying those technologies developed by ISRO that have the potential for commercialisation and can be transferred to external entities in the public and private sectors. As per Mint, under the agreement, as of October 2021, NSIL has transferred over 363 technologies for commercialisation.

Mumbai-based Godrej Aerospace has provided critical core components for the Chandrayaan-3 mission.?The rocket engines and thrusters that are integral to?the Chandrayaan-3?mission were developed by the company, as per CNBCTV18.
The liquid propulsion engines including the Vikas engine, the CE20, and satellite thrusters were developed and manufactured by the company at its Vikhroli facility in Mumbai.?According to?Godrej & Boyce?CEO Anil G Verma, the L110 engine for the core stage and the CE20 engine thrust chamber for the upper stage for the Chandrayaan-3 mission have been manufactured by Godrej Aerospace. ¡°We have also provided thrusters.¡±
The company has been a long-serving partner for the space agency. It has previously provided key indigenously developed products and components for the Chandrayaan-1, Chandrayaan-2 and Mangalyaan space missions.
Keltron units in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Minerals and Metals (KMML) in Kollam, and long-time industry partners of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) such as Ananth Technologies Ltd (ATL) and Kortas Industries Pvt Ltd supplied many of the components for the mission, as per The Hindu report.
State government undertaking Keltron supplied 41 electronics modules and various power modules for the Chandrayaan-3 mission, according to a statement issued after the launch. Keltron also provided test and evaluation support for the project.?
The Hyderabad-headquartered Ananth Technologies Ltd (ATL), which has exclusive facilities in Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru for supporting ISRO¡¯s space programmes, reportedly contributed to the avionics packages for the LVM3 mission, including onboard computers on the launch vehicle, navigation system, control electronics, telemetry, power systems and various vehicle interface units.
Walchandnagar Industries Ltd has been involved in manufacturing components for all 48 launches till now, right from the first launch of PSLV-D1 in 1993, as per Mint report.
The company has reportedly made roughly 300 to 500 components for Indian space missions, including Chandrayaan-3.
To fabricate the engine and the stage, ISRO had roped in Godrej, Hyderabad-based MTAR Technologies, and Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
Himson Industrial Ceramic has supplied critical components to safeguard the equipment of the?Chandrayaan-3?from extreme temperatures.?The Surat-based company has supplied squibs, a fireproof ceramic component which is used to insulate critical wiring and components of the spacecraft from extreme heat that reached up to 3,000 degrees Celsius.
As per the report, Himson Ceramic¡¯s director Nimesh Bachkaniwala told that the company has been producing essential ceramic parts for space missions since 1994 and it has been supplying squibs to ISRO for the last 30 years.
The squibs supplied by the company were also used in the Chandrayan-2 mission.
