Gaming industry is on the rise and many big companies are getting inside the rink. While streaming platforms like Netflix have already established themselves in the field, Microsoft-owned professional networking platform LinkedIn is also planning to foray into the booming market, as per reports.
According to a report from TechCrunch, LinkedIn, the professional networking platform boasting a user base of over 1 billion, is currently in the process of enhancing its gaming features and experiences. This development signals a potential expansion of LinkedIn's offerings beyond its traditional focus on professional connections and career development.
According to a? company spokesperson, it has been confirmed that they are working on gaming. However, there is no official launch date yet.
¡°We¡¯re playing with adding puzzle-based games within the LinkedIn experience to unlock a bit of fun, deepen relationships, and hopefully spark the opportunity for conversations,¡± the spokesperson said in a statement.
Nima Owji, an app researcher, additionally noted that LinkedIn seems to be exploring gaming initiatives. However, LinkedIn has refrained from commenting on whether Microsoft, its parent company, is participating in this gaming venture.
In the last quarter, Microsoft's gaming division, encompassing Xbox and Activision Blizzard, reported revenues of $7.1 billion. This notable figure follows Microsoft's acquisition of gaming giant Activision Blizzard, finalized on October 13, 2023.
In the last quarter, Xbox content and services revenue increased 61 per cent, driven by 55 points of net impact from the Activision acquisition.
Microsoft said the net impact from the Activision Blizzard acquisition was just over $2 billion in revenue.
Additionally, the company also laid off 1,900 workers in its gaming division in January this year ¡ª primarily affecting Activision Blizzard employees.
