This is as per Divyendra Singh Jadoun, founder of The Indian Deepfaker, a website that has been providing "hyper-realistic content" for almost three years through deepfake-as-a-service. The 30-year-old, who works closely with clients worldwide, including production companies, OTT platforms like Netflix, Indian ad agencies, and political parties, is based in the charming desert town of Pushkar, Rajasthan.
In 2023, Singh won his first political project¡ªthe assembly elections. Since then, he has held discussions with representatives of the Congress and the BJP about crafting "personalised messages"¡ªdeepfakes, essentially¡ªfor volunteers and members of the party in his native state.
As per a leading digital identity verification company, identity fraud committed with the use of deepfake technology affects India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan among the top ten countries in Asia-Pacific.?
According to the UK-based Sumsub Identity Fraud Report, these cybercrimes saw a notable increase in 2023 and are expected to rise even higher in 2021.Vietnam tops the region with 25.3% of all deepfake identity frauds, followed by Japan (23.4%), Australia (9.2%), China (7.7%), and Bangladesh (5.1%). The data came from an examination of more than two million fraud attempts in 224 nations and territories spanning 28 industries.
