This 1986 box office blockbuster¡¯s main characters became the victims of scammers who conned them into buying a house that starts to fall apart the very second they move in. And the massive and rising amount of money that it took to repair it, gave birth to the residence being dubbed as a money pit. So, the lesson it taught us is to never fall for slick stories from desperate home sellers, and do your own research and estimation before signing the dotted line.
This 1994 dramedy involved a cop and waitress who end up falling in love after winning a lottery jackpot together. But its not as simple as it sounds. The cop¡¯s wife, fed up with his donations and charity, gets hold of the entire jackpot money, even the waitress¡¯ share, after a court battle. But destiny plays its role. The new husband of cop¡¯s ex wife, after their divorce, turns out to be a conman, and ends up running away with the entire jackpot money from the cop's ex wife. So what all this teaches us, is that money doesn't make us. It only magnifies what we already are. The same money that amplified the waitress and cop¡¯s giving spirits, brought out the ugliness and greed hidden inside the cop¡¯s ex-wife.
This brilliant feature film puts forth a plethora of gems about money, one of which is to never marry someone for money. The movie involves a gambling expert proposing marriage to a beautiful Las Vegas hustler, who honestly confesses that she¡¯s not the marrying kind. But instead of accepting the truth that she just doesn¡¯t love him, the gambler urges her to ¡°learn to love,¡± and promises to take care of her monetarily. She agrees, marries him, and they have a daughter too. But the marriage turns into a turmoil soon, with more reasons than one to blame. So this fiasco of a marriage for money taught us the importance of having love in a relationship, and something as beautiful as a marriage, shouldn't be turned into money deals.
In this movie, Judas Iscariot received 30 pieces of silver in return for telling the whereabouts of Jesus to the enemies. Maddened by the greed of silver, Judas didn¡¯t realise that blood money is the worst kind of money one can have. Simply the worst. Even upon realising this and trying to give it back, the church leaders didn't take it from Judas, because ironically, they reasoned that they couldn¡¯t have blood money in their coffers. What we all learn from this movie is that life is priceless, and certainly much more worthy than money.
