Helios Capital Founder Insists Google CEO Sunder Pichai Should Resign Or Be Fired For Gemini
Following Google's recent decision to rename its Bard chatbot as Gemini and its faulty rollout, significant commotion has erupted within the search engine giant.
Alphabet's CEO, Sundar Pichai, is anticipated to either face termination or step down soon in the aftermath of the Gemini controversy, according to Samir Arora, the founder of Helios Capital, who asserts that such a consequence is justified.
Arora expressed his opinion on micro-blogging website X(formerly Twitter) when a user asked his opinion on the controversies revolving around AI chatbot Gemini.
He wrote, ¡°My guess is he will be fired or resign- as he should. After being in the lead on AI he has completely failed on this and let others take over."
What is Gemini AI?
Google has recently rebranded its chatbot Bard as Gemini, officially launching the artificial intelligence (AI) tool for global users. The tech giant states that users can now interact with the Gemini Pro 1.0 model in over 40 languages spanning more than 230 countries and territories.
Gemini Advanced is a component of the Google One AI Premium Plan, available at a monthly price of $19.99, which includes a complimentary two-month trial period. Subscribers to the AI Premium Plan can expect the integration of Gemini into various Google applications, including Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and more, formerly referred to as Duet AI, according to the latest information from Google.
Controversies Around The AI
Within a week of its launch, controversies emerged surrounding Google's new AI image-generator linked to Gemini AI. On February 23, Google issued an apology for the flawed rollout of the tool, acknowledging that it would sometimes "overcompensate" for lack of diversity, even when it was not appropriate, according to an AP report.
To address these concerns, Google announced a temporary suspension of the chatbot's image generation. Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president overseeing Google's search engine and other businesses, stated in a blog post that "It¡¯s clear that this feature missed the mark," expressing apologies for inaccurate and offensive images. Raghavan thanked users for their feedback.
Although specific examples were not cited, social media highlighted instances where the Gemini AI image generator portrayed a Black woman as a United States founding father and depicted Black and Asian individuals as Nazi-era German soldiers, as reported by AP.
Raghavan defended the chatbot's intent, explaining that the feature aimed to accommodate diverse requests but acknowledged that certain prompts led to "overcompensation."
India Likely To Issue Notice to Google over 'Biased' Gemini AI
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) is reportedly considering issuing a notice to Google over allegations of bias in Gemini's responses to a question about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On February 23, Gemini faced criticism for being perceived as biased against PM Modi, with a user on social media complaining about the AI model's responses. The viral post claimed that the Gemini AI tool provided a proper reply when asked about fascism concerning PM Modi, but when the same question was posed about Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the AI tool reportedly refused to give a clear answer.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar responded to the user's complaint, stating that the platform's actions violate IT rules and other laws. Chandrasekhar pointed to direct violations of Rule 3(1)(b) of the Intermediary Rules of the IT Act and various provisions of the Criminal Code. He tagged Google and Meity, indicating the possibility of further action in the matter.
