Not hundreds or thousands, but in facts lakhs of passengers commuting in and around Delhi use the Delhi Metro¡¯s services every single day. Surely many of us must have commuted in Delhi Metro, right? But with ticket fares being on the lower side, starting at as low as Rs 10, have you ever wondered how much the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) must be earning as revenue? Maybe in lakhs or a few crores? Well, the answer is set to blow your mind.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation earned a mammoth revenue of Rs 6645 crores last year. As per DMRC¡¯s financial statements, the total revenue generated in financial year 2022-23 was Rs 6645.06 crore, inclusive of income from traffic operations, real estate, consultancy and external projects.On the other hand, the total expenditure incurred in that same financial year was Rs 5833.81 crore.

Breaking down the Rs 6645 crore revenue that Delhi metro earned in last financial year, 'Traffic Operations¡¯ revenue of Rs 3633.18 crore was earned,?Consultancy¡¯ revenue was Rs 57.96 crore,?¡®Real Estate¡¯ revenue was Rs 155.17 crore, 'External Project Works' revenue was Rs2315.81 crore.?
Digging deeper into the external consultancy assignments, DMRC carried out work fir Dhaka Metro,Gujarat Metro Project, Mumbai Metro,UPMRC Metro Project, Jaipur Metro Project Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) - Metro Project among many more.
DMRC also carried out technical consultancy for projects such as tunneling work of Sleemnabad Canal in MP,Mumbai Metro, Patna Metro etc.
As per DMRC's financial report of FY23, these are Delhi metro's revenues for the last 10 years:
This year on new year¡¯s day, i.e. January 1st 2024, the Delhi Metro saw its highest single day ridership in six years, with more than 67 lakhs passenger trips on that day. Overall, the highest ever daily passenger count for DMRC was in September 2023, when 71.03 lakh passengers commuted through the Delhi metro.

On India's Republic Day, 26th January, Delhi Metro will start its services at?4:00 AM?on all its lines Train services will be available at a headway of 30 minutes till 6 AM, and?with regular schedules resuming after that.
