Mumbai, the big money spot in our country, is known for being super expensive. It's one of the priciest cities worldwide, way up there with lots of other global hotspots. Loads of folks in Mumbai shell out their hard-earned cash just to snag a house there. But get this ¨C what if I told you that for the same amount of money, you could actually buy a whole tropical island in UK? Crazy, right? Seems shocking, but it's true.?
A Scottish island off the west coast is up for grabs at $3.1 million (Rs 26 crore). This 453-acre island can be reached by boat or helicopter and boasts seven homes, able to house up to 26 people, along with a pub and a helipad. Additionally, there's a small farm with 55 black-faced sheep, as per Knightfrank.com.
The island was eventually sold to Swiss businessman Michi Meier for the reduced price of ?2.5 million.
Sanda Island lies between Scotland and Northern Ireland, off the southern tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, made famous by the 1977 song ¡°Mull of Kintyre¡± by Paul McCartnery and Wings.
Over time, this island has had ties to monks, saints, and royalty. Scottish King Robert the Bruce and Norway¡¯s King Hacon both visited, while its chapel is linked to Saint Columba and Saint Ninian. The island has changed hands many times, but one of its most notable owners was Jack Bruce from the rock band Cream.
The lodging can cater to as many as 26 people, perfect for a cozy gathering at the Byron Darnton Tavern. This pub got its name from a shipwreck in 1946. Originally set up in 2003 by former owners Dick and Meg Gannon, it welcomed customers who arrived by boat for several years. However, it shut down when the island was purchased in 2010 by Swiss businessman Michi Meier.
The island stands 23 meters tall (75 feet) at its highest spot. On a clear day, you can catch sight of Northern Ireland¡¯s Antrim Hills, about 20 miles away across the North Channel. Campbelltown, in Scotland, is the main way to reach the island by boat. It's got a big marina, a bunch of whisky distilleries, and even Scotland¡¯s oldest cinema.
Sanda Island has seven homes, with four up north and three by the lighthouse down south. Most of these houses have been spruced up by the current owners. They've put in new double-glazed windows and added new shower rooms in some cottages, which now have underfloor electric heating.
The island also has a helipad near the road that links the farmhouse and the lighthouse cottages.?
You'll find loads of wildlife on Sanda, including puffins, storm petrels, razorbills, Manx shearwaters, kittiwakes, guillemots, great black-backed gulls, fulmars, cormorants, shags, and black guillemots.
And guess what? The sale even includes ownership of Sheep Island (31.72 acres) and Glunimore Island (4.41 acres), just a hop, skip, and jump away to the north and northeast of Sanda.
