In a quest to get a high package, most of us sacrifice a great deal! Be it work-life balance, stress or long working hours, it¡¯s a vicious cycle that never ends.
Recently, an employee of McKinsey and company quit his job despite earning a handsome package of Rs 1.7 crore per annum. He revealed that he forgot to even eat sometimes due to excessive work which led to massive weight loss.
He went on to share why he made this hard decision.?
"On a typical day, I worked from 7.30 am or 8 am until 11.30 pm. And it was pedal to the metal ¡ª I didn't leave my desk, forgot to eat, and dropped tons of weight. I barely remembered to go to the bathroom. I only remembered to get up when I noticed my dog looking at me all sad," he told Business Insider.

As surprising as it may sound, he realised that the salary that he was being paid wasn¡¯t enough for the amount of work he did.
He reflected on his time working with the organization, noting several shortcomings he encountered. Firstly, he found the compensation inadequate considering the workload and mental strain. Secondly, he anticipated a culture of mentorship but often felt isolated without proper guidance. Additionally, he experienced instances of partners and seniors being discouraging and unkind.

¡°The analysts and associates were all cool, but a few associate partners and partners were mean. They freaked out over mistakes and belittled people's thought processes,¡± he said. Another reason was his mental health was impacted tremendously as he shared, "I was crying more and taking anxiety medication at a higher dosage than I had ever needed before joining. The week before I decided to leave, I was oscillating between being way too OK, and then crying, and then being way too stoic."
Yet, he acknowledges that the company set a high standard, which pushed him to learn considerably, unlike his previous experiences in other consulting firms. Despite encountering rudeness from seniors, he found support from colleagues and teammates who stood by each other. He emphasizes the importance of companies prioritizing employee well-being and mental health.
