We get very little information about Bharat, the younger brother of Shri Ram and son of King Dasharatha-Kaikei, in the epic Ramayana. So let us know interesting things about Bharat-??

You will be surprised to know that when Kaikeyi asked for two boons from King Dasharatha, Bharat was not there in Ayodhya at that time. He had gone to his uncle's house.

Bharat had no role in sending Ram into exile but after his father's death he was deprived of performing the last rites of his father and his younger brother Shatrughan performed the last rites of his father.

Bharat had reached Chitrakoot to meet Ram and had asked his elder brother to go to Ayodhya. But Shri Ram refused. Then Bharat came to Ayodhya with his feet and chose to rule for 14 years by placing his feet on the throne.

An exception is a temple at Nalambalam in Kerala, where there are four temples dedicated to Sri Rama as well as each of his brothers.

When Lord Rama went into exile for 14 years, Bharat left Ayodhya and lived in a hut in Nandigram. From there he took charge of Ayodhya.

Bharat's wife's name was Mandvi, who was the daughter of King Janak's younger brother Kushadhwaj. She left Ayodhya with her husband and came to Nandigram. Bharat had two sons Taksha and Pushkala.
