Ampere Vehicles has announced the latest entrant in the Indian electric mobility scenario, a new electric scooter named Zeal. With the Zeal, the e-mobility subsidiary of Greaves Cotton, an Indian engineering company, adds yet another electric vehicle to its list of offerings, only this time, the e-scooter comes with a higher speed than its predecessors. An added benefit, the Zeal attracts concessions under the FAME-II scheme.
Ampere Vehicles has been a known name in the Indian EV market since long now, with its personal vehicle line-up comprising of low-speed, affordable electric scooters. The Zeal now comes as the flagship product, offering a bit higher speed to the riders. The top speed, however, is still restricted to 55 kmph, with a claimed acceleration of 0-50kmph in 14 secs. Though it is still not a considerable speed to offer, the increase is substantial from the previous top speed of 25 kmph of the Ampere electric scooters.

Apart from the top speed, other specs of the Zeal include a range of 75 km with a charge time of 5.5 hours. To further enhance this range, the e-scooter comes with two riding modes -- economy and power -- to adjust the power output as per demand. Other features include LED headlights, body graphics and an anti-theft alarm.
Since the electric scooter is powered by Lithium-ion batteries, buyers of the Zeal will also be able to avail a subsidy of Rs 18,000 under the FAME-II guidelines. That would effectively bring the price of the electric two-wheeler down to Rs 69,962 (ex-showroom, Delhi) from the original ex-showroom price of Rs 87,862.
Ampere¡¯s latest offering is yet to see any impact in the market but considering the company¡¯s sustained existence in the EV industry and the target market of the product, the Zeal might just receive a good response. Apart from the electric scooters, Ampere Vehicles also sells two electric industrial vehicles namely Trishul and Mitra.
