A duo of father and son has been caught manufacturing fake luxury cars in a factory in the south of Brazil. The workshop that went by the name of &lsquoAutos Fibra&rsquo was being run by a 53-year-old man and his 29-year old son. The duo had even advertised about their workshop and the manufactured vehicles on Instagram and YouTube.
Cheap copies of branded goods are a common sight in the local markets. However, it is not everyday that you find replicas of supercars from the likes of Lamborghini and Ferrari. If this surprises you as much as it surprises us, get this - a duo of father and son has been caught manufacturing fake luxury cars in a factory in the south of Brazil.
In what can be called a peculiar bust by the police of Itaja¨ª, a city in Santa Catarina state, Brazil, eight vehicles including two ¡°Ferraris¡± and six ¡°Lamborghinis¡± in the making were found in a garage. Some of these cars were half ready while some were just being started.
The workshop that went by the name of ¡®Autos Fibra¡¯ was being run by a 53-year-old man and his 29-year old son. The duo had even advertised about their workshop and the manufactured vehicles on Instagram as well as YouTube.

The idea was to sell cheap ripoffs of luxury cars, that would normally cost upwards of Rs 4 crore. The vehicles being built by the duo carried similar looks to the supercars, complete with logos of the brands, to the point that an untrained eye could be convinced to consider it as the original. The cars, however, had cheap engines in them, from the likes of Mitsubishi Eclipse, Alfa Romeo or Chevrolet Omega. The interiors and the finishing of the vehicle was based on the client¡¯s paying capacity, usually taking the cost to around Rs 30 to 45 lakh.
A report mentions that the company has been in operation for the last 25 years. One of the men facing charges defended the working of the firm by saying that the vehicles being produced are not based on the industrial design and hence cannot be called a replica. He even mentioned that the firm is working legally under a Brazilian regulation, producing ¡°artisanal cars¡±.

The police did not arrest anyone at the spot but has confirmed that it will be charging the duo for fraud of using registered company logos - an intellectual property offence.
Several countries, including Brazil, allow its citizens to own and drive custom built cars, giving way to the culture of garage customs. Autos Fibra can be considered to be such a firm and there is nothing wrong if that is the case. However, the fact that the firm was using logos and was replicating the designs of registered car brands can land it in legal trouble.
