Made In India Tata Tigor And Tiago Get 4 Star Global NCAP Rating

Tata Motors has been on a roll with the safety testing of its vehicles. Almost all the makes by the company are scoring impressively high as per the Global NCAP safety standards. Two new models - 2020 Tata Tiago and Tigor have now joined the list, scoring 4-star each.

To recall, the 2020 models of Tiago and Tigor come with BS6 compliant engines and minor upgrades on the outside. In addition, Tata Motors has also enhanced the safety quotient on the cars which now reflects in their score in the recently conducted Global NCAP test.

For the test, the Global NCAP team selected the base variants of the two cars. Crashed at a speed of 64 kmph, both the cars managed to score a four-star rating for the adult occupants and a three-star safety rating for the child occupants. In numbers, this rating equated to 12.52 out of 17 for adult occupants, while being limited to 34.15 out of 49 for child occupants.

This was achieved with the use of dual frontal airbags, ABS with EBD and front seatbelts with pretensionors that come as standard across the range. The result mentioned a good protection offered to the head and neck of the adult occupants, while the chest protection was marginal and adequate in the case of the driver and the co-passenger respectively.

For the child dummies, fair protection was offered to the head and chest as the forward impact movement of the 3-year-old was restricted by the adult seatbelt and support leg. Similarly, protection offered to the 1.5-year old dummy was deemed ¡°good¡±. The car, however, misses out on three point belts in all seating positions and ISOFIX anchorages.

It is easy to see that Tata Motors cars on offer in the Indian market are doing well consistently in the safety crash tests. With a string of positive results for the company, an industry-wide benchmark is being created to match the safety standards of the Indian-made cars. This would eventually help the Indian car buyers be safer on the Indian roads.
