Electric vehicles miss the sound of a conventional exhaust kit setup found in internal combustion engines. While the result is desirable for most, there are some motor enthusiasts who would miss the adrenaline-pump that such a sound brings. Now though, EVs don¡¯t have to miss out on such a sound.
Militek Sport - the renowned performance exhaust manufacturer, has come up with Active Sound Generator Version 2. In essence a retro-fit exhaust kit, the sound generator is able to convert the sound from your car¡¯s exhaust to the one of your choice from a list of sounds offered by the company.
But what about EVs that do not have an exhaust at all. The Militek Active Sound Generator is compatible with those too. For now, the kit is available for the Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X, i.e. the complete S3XY lineup of Tesla.
The Active Sound Generator does more than just emulate a sound. It allows you to select the desired engine rev sound for your exhaust from 10 pre-set sound files. In addition, users can also adjust the volume of the sound with a simple app interface so you don¡¯t have to wake up your neighbours the next time you pull in your drive-way.
You can check out the system¡¯s sound on a Tesla Model 3 in the video below. The hum drum Tesla Model 3 sounds like a V8 muscle car -
While the sound seems quite unnatural in an electric vehicle, let alone a Tesla that claims to be the best of the lot, there is an understandable market for it. To think of it, not many are accustomed to driving silent cars even with the increased adoption of EVs. The sound of engine-revs have been in existence for more than a century and it is difficult to do away with its appeal. At least for the majority of motorists with a single upgrade to an EV.
Militek¡¯s Active Sound Generator makes this transition possible relatively easily, if nothing else. While it is understandable that people will enjoy silent drives in their electric vehicles, at times they might have the urge to let it run wild and that is when they would miss the engine-revvs. Not with Militek¡¯s new system!
Militek claims that the system uses next to negligible power to run, so it would not affect the range of the EV at all. The system, however, is a bit on the costlier side with a price tag of $2,104 (Rs 1.6 lakh) in the U.S.
