These Mini Electric Motorcycles Are Made Of Recycled Materials And Are Coming To India
Electric two-wheelers have somehow gained precedence over four- wheelers in many parts. Australian company Fonzarelli has now come up with an EV that might just be the answer to these issues. The electric mini motorcycles will act as a notable step-up from electric scooters but just short of a full-fledged electric motorcycle.
As the world seeks a drastic transition to battery powered vehicles for a cleaner commute, electric two-wheelers have somehow gained precedence over four-wheelers in many parts. Rightly so, as it is these electric two-wheelers that will propel the total number of EV users, enabling mass adoption. Then again, the prevalent offerings we have in this category are not very attractive in comparison with their IC engine counterparts.
Part of this can be blamed on the below par performance capabilities offered by them. They are either meant for short distance commutes thus compromising on range, or they have a limited top speed to get the maximum efficiency/range. Those wanting both will have to shell out top bucks for the handful of capable EVs in the market.
Not anymore, as Australian company Fonzarelli has now come up with an EV that might just be the answer to these issues. At an entry level price point, NKD electric motorbikes have debuted as ¡°mini motorbikes¡± that will potentially replace the not-so-capable electric scooters on sale for now.
Essentially belonging to an entirely new format of electric vehicles, these NKD motorcycles are believed to be the fastest of their kind by the company¡¯s founder Michelle Nazarri. These also mark the company¡¯s first ever deviation from electric scooters, three of which have already been launched by Fonzarelli to date.
The electric mini motorcycles will act as a notable step-up from electric scooters but just short of a full-fledged electric motorcycle, thus being more accessible, both in terms of price as well as availability.
As for the motorcycles, a unique aspect tends to help their case in their comparison with electric scooters. Unlike the scooters that are fixed in their performance delivery, NKD motorcycles come with different specifications which can be customized as per the user¡¯s need. These can either be used to achieve a quicker acceleration or a top speed of 100 kmph. The range promised on the NKD bikes is 120 km on a single charge.
As for its charging, the bikes get their own portable charger but can also be charged through fast charging plug points installed at public spaces. Interestingly, Fonzarelli reportedly has used recycled plastics for the electric motorcycle.
Use case for India?
Now such a vehicle in India will tend to face some reluctance in the market. That is because the masses have already been accustomed to scooters and motorcycles when it comes to two-wheelers. That being said, not many are familiar with electric scooters or motorcycles and the NKD mini motorcycles will probably come to them just as alien as the idea of a battery powered two-wheeler.
Amongst this, an added advantage will be the enhanced performance in comparison with e-scooters. Anyone not finding electric scooters plausible enough for their daily commute will probably look at NKD electric motorcycles as a possible solution. And given the numbers they claim to deliver on the move, they will be a good one!
It is a good thing we find a use case for such mini motorcycles in India because believe it or not, they will be coming to the country soon. Fonzarelli is reportedly working with Australian Trade and Investment Commission, or Austrade to get this done.
