Nissan Joins Hands With Tesla, Will Adopt EV Charging Technology In US And Canada In 2025
In a new global update in the EV field, Nissan announced that it will be adopting Tesla's EV charger network technology from 2025 in the US and Canada.
On Wednesday, Nissan became the first Japanese automaker to give a nod to adopting Telsa¡¯s EV charging technology in the US and Canada. With this decision, Nissan joined its global peers in expanding their fast-charger network to increase EV users all over the globe.

In 2025, Nissan will start to equip its EVs with the Tesla-developed North American Charging Standard (NACS) port while it chases its target to turn 40% of US vehicle sales into fully electric by 2030.
Other American rivals like Ford, General Motors, and Rivian are among the companies that have accepted NACS. This means that these companies are distancing themselves from the earlier efforts of the Biden administration to make the Combined Charging System (CCS) the dominant U.S. charging standard.
The White House also announced that the electric-charging stations using Tesla-standard plugs would be available in federal subsidies for billions of dollars as long as they included the U.S. charging standard connection, CCS.
Starting in 2024, Nissan is set to offer NACS charging adapters with its Ariya EV models. Currently, these models are equipped with CCS to enable them to charge on Tesla's Supercharger network.
Presently, 60% of the total number of fast chargers in the United States are accounted for by Tesla's Superchargers.
In June, Rivian Joined Ford In Adopting Tesla's Charging Stations

Last month, Rivian joined Ford in adopting Tesla¡¯s charging standard. The company embraced the standard charging network, giving Rivian customers access to the largest charging network in the United States.
The company is set to launch equip its EV models in the US and Canada as early as spring 2024. Customers will be able to use 12,000 Tesla Superchargers with adapters in the two neighbouring countries.
Rivian, which has its own limited network of fast chargers, will also make a Tesla-style charging outlet standard on its vehicles starting in 2025. In a conversation with Reuters, Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe said, ¡°We prefer the Tesla connector, which is more compact, and we also see it as an opportunity to leverage the charging infrastructure that they built.¡±

As companies adopt Tesla¡¯s charging network, the company aims to reel in big numbers by selling electricity to a larger number of EV drivers. In the most recent quarter, 10% of Tesla¡¯s revenue came from services and other revenue which includes Supercharger fees. It is important to note that the company does not separate charging revenue from other revenue.
While other electric car manufacturers scurry to maintain access to consistent charging for their customers in order to alleviate concerns about being stranded, most have avoided establishing networks. This is because installing and maintaining these charging networks entail significant investment for currently limited results.
