Porsche Downplays Itself! Taycan's Real World Range Found To Be More Than Claimed Figure!
Porsche at best claimed a modest range for its all electric Taycan at the time of its launch. The top range mentioned for the car is according to the EPA test However it has been exceeded almost every time someone carried out a real world range test on the Taycan.
Porsche at best, claimed a modest range for its all electric Taycan at the time of its launch. The reason behind this is that the top range mentioned for the car is according to the EPA test. However, it has been exceeded almost every time someone carried out a real world range test on the Taycan.
A notable one, for instance, is by Car and Driver wherein the Porsche Taycan Turbo S was found to overshoot its range by a good 27 km. Porsche¡¯s first ever electric car was able to cover 336 km in a single charge at a speed of 75 kmph. The result was far from the range claimed by the EPA - 309 km.
In another test, Alex Roy from The Drive was able to churn out a great 435 km of range on a single charge on his Taycan i.e. in the range mode. At max, he was able to even get a reading of 295 miles (475 km) on the electric car.
Interestingly, the argument arises from the discrepancies found in the EPA rating and their real life mileage of the Taycan. Though it is not uncommon for vehicles to have a range different from that mentioned by the EPA, in the case of Taycan, the EPA range just did not make sense to anyone ever.
A German electric supercar out to beat the market of Tesla that promises an EPA range of 500 km plus would never have a range as low as predicted by the EPA. While Porsche claimed a range of around 265 miles (426 km) for the Taycan, the EPA reduced it to just 201 miles (323 km).
In fact Porsche was so shocked by the EPA ratings that it hired vehicle testing firm AMCI to conduct a new assessment. Post the tests, AMCI then confirmed a range of 275 miles (443 km) on the Taycan in real life conditions.
The discrepancy is now being revealed through various real life tests. In fact, the test conducted by the Car and Driver also indicates that the EPA range of the Tesla Model S Performance is largely optimistic, claiming at least over a 100 km of additional range on the car.
Since it is only the real world range that matters, it seems like Porsche will be taking this win from the EPA itself, thanks to the well worked Taycan electric!
