Set for an early 2015 launch, the first release of the BMW 2 Series Convertible has hit the news, and safe to say, it makes a great case for an open-top premium compact drive.
With impressive engine alternates and a stunning appearance, here's why the four-seater is a great bet for those who like the wind in their hair...
In terms of appearance, there¡¯s the signature BMW impact with the iconic kidney grille that separates the LED headlights (bi-xenon optional) to create a formidable stance.
It¡¯s low-strung, has short overhangs, a long bonnet, broad wheelbase and a pronounced swage line ¡ª basically it¡¯s got the quintessential BMW sedan DNA.
Now what makes the 2 Series ¡®all that¡¯, is of course the new ¡®Convertible¡¯ tag, so it might interest you to know the fabric top opens and closes in 20 seconds even at a reasonably speedy pace (50 km/h).
You can fashion it in black, anthracite with silver effect, or opt for the brown with silver alternate, but in the end, it¡¯s the added insulation and optimised acoustic comfort that really makes a difference.
It remains to be seen which of models make it to India, but the BMW 2 Series Convertible for starters is being served up in three petrol (BMW M235i Convertible, BMW 228i Convertible, BMW 220i Convertible) and one diesel option (BMW 220d).
The top-of-the-line is of course the M variant, ie, BMW M235i, which boasts of three litre six cylinder engine that packs in the M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology and has an eight speed Steptronic transmission as an option.
Your car will max out at 250 km/h and can go from standstill to 100 km/h in just about 5.2 seconds / 5 seconds for the Automatic.
The booty of this drive is sharply sculpted to figure some arches and sits broad and pronounced on the rear wheel drive. Make note, this is also where you will proudly show-off the BMW line badge you own ¡ª Advantage, Luxury, Sport or M Sport.
The luggage capacity stands at 335 litre when the top is closed, and 280 litre when the top is open.
The cabin of the car is elegantly sporty in design, with a driver-focused cockpit, leather upholstery and chrome inserts on the panels.
The high gloss finish, ambient lights and optional leather trim with SunReflective technology (reduces surface heating), make for other luxury elements in the interiors.
We end on a hi-tech note, where the BMW 2 Series Convertible¡¯s flatscreen control display, Auto Climate Control and Touch Control SatNav come in to play. The makers also achieve a first with their over-the-air navigation updates that are channeled through the car¡¯s built-in SIM card.
Other, more expected inclusions are the Park Assist, Rear View Camera, Cruise Control, Drive Assist, online entertainment and the central unit¡¯s ability to configure with your smartphone.
