Key Moments of India's Win at Motera

India won the Motera Test quite easily. Though an innings win was in everyone's mind, after bundling out England for a paltry 191 runs and forcing a follow on, but the visitors showed great application in the second innings and extended the match till the fifth day. Here are the moments to remember from the first Test at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.

India get off to a rollicking start after openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir went slam bang with the England bowlers. The duo compiled a 134-run opening stand in 29.5 overs in 126 minutes.

After the fall of Gambhir's (45 runs, 111 balls) wicket, Sehwag continued to attack and scored a 117-ball 117. He and talented Cheteshwar Pujara piled up 90 runs for the 2nd wicket in 20.2 overs.

After Sehwag's fall, Pujara continued with one end, while big stars like Sachin Tendulkar (13 runs off 18 balls) and Virat Kohli (19 runs off 67 balls) perished without any significant contribution.
Then came Yuvraj Singh, who paired with Pujara for a 130-run stand in 47.3 overs. After Singh (74 runs off 151 balls) got out, Pujara stood rock solid at one end.

At the other end, Pujara saw the exit of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (5 runs off 37 balls), Ravichandran Ashwin (23 runs off 52 balls) and Zaheer Khan (7 runs off 10 balls). However, he continued and reached his first double century and India declared after reaching 521/8, with Pujara unbeaten on 206 runs off 389 balls (21 fours).

England spinner Graeme Swann bowled an impressive spell and ended as the most successful bowler. In 51 overs, he took 5 wickets conceding 144 runs.

England started the chase nervously. It lost three quick wickets in the last session of Day 2 to the Indian spinners. Day 3 was nothing different and the visitors kept on losing wickets regularly and they ended their first innings at 191, in 74.2 overs. Pragyan Ojha was the pick of the bowlers with a 5 wicket haul in 22.2 overs, conceding 45 runs. Ashwin played the perfect supporting role and took 3 wickets conceding 80 runs in 27 overs.
India forced a follow on after England ended their first innings with a 330-run deficit. In the second innings, the visitors displayed great application. The openers - Cook and Nick Compton - took England to 111 without losing a wicket at stumps on Day 3.

England batted much better than the first innings on Day 4. It lost just five wickets and saved themselves from an innings defeat by ending the day at 340/5, with skipper Cook (168) and wicketkeeper Matt Prior (84) unbeaten at the end of the day. The day also saw India's potent spin weapon Ashwin going wicket-less.
Day 5 started with a hope that England will consolidate the lead and save the match. However, India responded well by claiming wickets at regular intervals. Ojha (4 wickets conceding 120 runs) gave the biggest shock to the visitors by claiming Cook's (176 runs off 374 balls) wicket. Young pacer Umesh Yadav too bowled well with 3 wickets conceding 70 runs in 23 overs. Ashwin finally got his first wicket and the England innings folded at 406.

Chasing a target of 77 runs to win, India opened with Sehwag and Pujara, as Gambhir was unavailable due to the demise of his grandmother. It seemed, both the openers were in hurry to catch an early flight. They blasted England bowlers and ended the chase in just 15.3 overs, in minutes. In this hurried chase, Sehwag got out for 24 runs (1 six, 1 four). However, Pujara 41 runs (51 balls, 8 fours) and Kohli 11 runs (21 balls, 2 fours) took India home and ensured a 9-wicket win in the revenge series.
