9 Of The Most Ridiculous Exotic Animals That People Have Had As Pets
Very few people can be indifferent to animals they are loyal, they make great companions and are the best stress busters. But, there are some who take this love to ridiculous extents.
They keep the most dangerous animals as pets. These are animals who aren't meant to be taken out of their natural habitat, yet people bust thousands of dollars just to keep them captive in the house.
The word safety really does not seem to feature in their dictionary. Here are some of the most deceptively adorable looking animals that straight up belong in the wild
1. Slow Loris

Oh, look at these eyes. Can there be anything cuter than that?
Slow Loris might look unbearably adorable but these slow creatures are known to be vicious biters, and yet there are some geniuses who decided to keep them as pets.
If one does bite you, you can go into anaphylactic shock, which can be fatal..
2. Piranha
If you've watched Piranhas 3D, you would realise what these little fishies are capable of doing. They are very feisty carnivorous fast-moving fish. And yes, there are some sadistic piranha owners who love feeding little goldfish to these piranhas.
Piranhas are fairly tiny fish, growing up to 33 centimetres at the most, but their bites are lethal and almost as bad as sharks.
3. Kinkajou
Facebook/Animal Kingdom
Kinkajous are adorable creatures and celebrities such as Paris Hilton have been known to keep them as pets. In 2005, she took it shopping with her and it attacked her and clawed up her face.
Kinkajous are nocturnal tree-dwellers, and in the wild, they spend most of their time in the rainforest canopies. A kinkajou, also known as a sugar bear, looks like a cross between a squirrel, a hamster, and a chinchilla.
4. Poison dart frog
A Poison dart frog, ok why? It looks slimy, has bulbous eyes and is freaking poisonous. But some people will stop at nothing when it comes to owning 'exotic' animals. These frogs can easily kill 10 adults, if they touch them.
5. Hippo
Facebook/Mother Nature Network
Yeah, Gloria from Madagascar might look oh-so-adorable. But just to give you a perspective of how dangerous they can, here¡¯s what happened in South Africa. A farmer was killed by his pet hippopotamus he raised from the age of five months, and which he once described as being 'like a son' to him.
Humphrey the Hippo mauled owner Marius Els, 41, to death by repeatedly biting him in a vicious attack. The farmer's mutilated body was discovered submerged in a river running through his 400-acre farm in rural South Africa.
Well, then.
6. Ostriches
Sure, they seem cute and awkward looking. They even hide their heads in the ground. But apparently, these guys will also chase you and they run pretty darn fast. And it¡¯s never a good idea to get crushed by a freaking ostrich.
7. Scorpions
We all know that scorpions can pack quite a punch with those venomous stings but none of that matters for someone who has fallen in love with this creepy crawly. There are even handy guides for those who want to buy a scorpion. How are people not scared that it might escape and just go on a stinging spree?

8. Constrictors

Red-tailed boas at the pet store seem harmless and kind of cute. But they grow quite rapidly; can get up to several feet in length, and speaking from a neighbourhood experience, they have been known to escape. One of the main concerns with owning constrictors is that once they start to get large, some people actually just let them go and return them to the wild.
9. Venomous Snakes

They are poisonous. They bite. None of this is a good combination. In Minnesota in the US a man was bitten by the rhinoceros viper snake he kept as a pet. Though he survived the bite, no one in their right minds should take such a risk. It's simply crazy.
