This NYC Restaurant Has Only Grandmas As Chefs And They're Totally Acing The Culinary Game!
Your grandmother's unbeatable cooking could just well be their business.
May be Staten Island's Enoteca Maria restaurant is the closest you can come to food like home, outside the home. Better still, it promises to taste like your grandmother's food.
This kitchen has hired 'nonnas' (Italian; grandmothers) from around the world to recreate some of the best dishes from homes across the world. Jody Scaravella, the restaurant's owner brought the business to life by first placing the ad 'Italian housewives to cook regional dishes,' in an Italian newspaper. Italian grandmothers were quick to respond, and business boomed.

The restaurant today houses grandma chefs from as far off as Nigeria, Poland, Algeria, Argentina, Syria, the Dominican Republic and Liberia.
But so many grandmothers and one kitchen - how does that work?

"Each one of these [Italian] grandmothers feels like they're the boss, because in their particular family unit, they're at the top of that pyramid. So when you put all of these grandmothers that are all at the top in a room together, they all feel like they're in charge and they're all wondering what that other person is doing there," Scaravella told gothamist.com in an interview. "It can get dicey," he jokes.
