A United Airlines plane flying to Hawaii was forced to make an emergency landing after its engine strated to rip apart mid air.
A piece of the cover came off the the flight 1175¡¯s right engine, United spokesman Charles Hobart told CNN. ¡°Our pilots followed all necessary protocols to safely land the aircraft."
The fiasco started after a loud bang was heard roughly 35 minutes before the flight was scheduled to land in Honolulu.
¡°There was a loud bang... and then the plane really started shaking,¡± passenger Allison Sudiacal told Hawaii News Now. ¡°There was a loud boom and then it was like rattling and the plane was kind of shaking like boom, boom, boom.¡±

Pilots declared an emergency due to a vibration in the right engine and warned airport ground crew.
I don't see anything about this in the manual ??#ua1175 pic.twitter.com/yTECg9fxZw

Thanks, Maria. Could you see parts flying off during the flight? How long into the flight did parts start breaking off? Did the captain inform passengers what was happening? You, along with fellow passengers, must have been terrified!

This damage is nothing to worry about; planes are designed with fail safe systems; and the Engine Cover is a Tertiary structure meaning, that if it failed it wouldn't endanger the flight or it's integrity! It's scary but nothing to worry about!

The aerodynamics for the majority; it's because the airflow is heavily disrupted by the loss of the engine cowlings! The engine also but they're insignificant compared to the airflow! The Airflow normally passes by without any heavy vibrations thanks to the cowlings!

It was pretty scary. They did a great job and so did the crew!

But the incident left passengers terrified. One Maria Falaschi, who uploaded a series of dramatic photos, said it was .the ¡°scariest flight of my life.¡± Many lauded the flight crew for keeping the atmosphere in the cabin as calm as possible.
