You can really tell a spiritual man apart from the rest. The way they talk, the rings, the way they go about doing their business, did I mention the rings? Made of various precious stones, it's supposed to bring in love, health, and happiness. Some, in order to have an excess of it all, end up wearing all possible stones, in all possible places. Even sporting two-three stones on a finger.

You might have guessed by the tone of my words that I'm not quite into believing that wearing a few stones could change my fortunes. Maybe it would, but it's too far-fetched a belief for me. But while I have my reservations, it is also known that minerals, crystals and gems of several kinds have been used for thousands of years in the past to enhance emotional, physical and spiritual balance. How they knew about it, where or when they found out, we might never know. But these precious stones did play a major role in mankind's existence in the past.

A Roman wouldn't be caught dead without talismans and amulets. It was rather typical of their culture. They would apparently consider it useful in enhancing health, achieving things they desired and as a protection from evil in a battle.

They would bury their dead with quartz upon the forehead, for they would believe it would help their beloved depart safely into the afterlife. Pharaohs would fill the cylinders with quartz to balance the Ba and Ka (Ancient Egyptians believed the soul had three parts, the Ka, the Ba, and the Akh. The Ka was believed to be the life-force or double of a person. The Ba was the part of the soul that embarked on a journey to follow the gods. Until the 1500s, many Greeks believed that stones like clear Quartz crystals were nothing but ice sent from the heavens. Precious stones have always been valuable to Indians. Even now, traditional Indians can be seen swearing by them. Crystals were known to be valuable in Ayurveda for healing emotional and spiritual imbalances in a human. Our Vedas not only talk about the various healing crystals but also talk about each stone's specific healing characteristic. Sapphires are known to bring astuteness, clarity and mental balance, while jasper is known for harmony and sexual vitality, among other things.
