7 Celebs Who Bared All About Their Drug & Alcohol Addiction & Exposed The Ugly Side Of B-Town
Indian film industry, Bollywood particularly, is a dirty place, they said. There's a lot that hides behind all the glitz and glamour that almost each one of us at some point in our lives has craved for. From being a drug house to being an escort business, the grapevine says a lot about the industry, which many of us refuse to believe.
However, one harsh truth about the industry is that there are a lot of drug tales that remain hidden inside. While some of the celebrities have discussed their habits of substance abuse in the past, there are others who were caught red-handed using them.
Here is a list of celebrities who openly discussed their addiction after having quit it in order to motivate others to do the same, and below that is another list of celebrities who have been caught using them or are substantially rumoured to be addicted to drugs and alcohol.
1. Sanjay Dutt Drug Addiction
While almost everyone is aware of the fact that Sanjay Dutt has recently come out from jail for possession of arms that were used in 1993 bomb blasts, not many people know that in 1982, the Bollywood actor was arrested for possession of drugs as well, after which he was sent to the US in the rehab on his father Sunil Dutt¡¯s suggestion.
¡°Substance abuse is something that you do if you want to do it. Once you get into it, it's very difficult to leave. It is the worst thing in the world. My journey with substance abuse has been about 12 years. There are no drugs in the world that I have not done. When my father took me to America (for rehab), they gave me a list (of drugs) and I ticked every drug on it, because I had taken all of them. The doctor told my dad, 'What kind of food do you eat in India? Going by the drugs he did, he should be dead by now!,'¡± he had revealed while speaking at the EEMA's (Event and Entertainment Management Association) annual convention.
2. Prateik Babbar Drug Addiction
Prateik Babbar, son of late actress Smita Patil and Raj Babbar, recently opened up about his addiction to drugs. The actor confessed he started doing drugs at the age of 13. Women came and went, but drugs remained with him. However, later rehab helped him come out of this problem.
¡°My first real drug was a disturbed childhood. Constantly faced with internal dilemma, the voices in my head debating where I belong and who I am, drugs came disguised as a glitzy escape. As years went by, I got acquainted with the narcotic underbelly, which led me to my first run-in with drugs at the age of 13.¡±
¡°Getting out of bed was almost impossible; nausea greeted me each morning, my body ached and I oscillated between hot and cold every few minutes. At that point, I didn¡¯t even have a drug of choice, I took whatever I could lay my hands on.¡±

3. Ranbir Kapoor Drug Addiction
We all know about the rise and rise of Ranbir Kapoor. The actor gained all the attention from the filmmakers as well as audiences. But did you know that alcohol and drugs, he has done it all? He used to smoke pot, and he also used it a tool to ace his role in Rockstar.
He used to smoke weed, he confessed in an interview with India Today, while he was at filming school.
¡°I used it again during Rockstar. This time as an acting tool. It was hard to get in the moment on stage with 300 bored junior artistes posing as a real audience. Pot made those moments feel real.
4. Honey Singh Drug Addiction
While the grapevine is abuzz with rumours that Honey Singh¡¯s downfall from a great career and superstardom was because of his drug addiction, the man still denied it. Rumour had it that he was once slapped by Shah Rukh Khan because he was under the influence of drugs.
¡°This is the first time I am talking about it as I want my fans to know what happened to me. Nobody knows about this, and I wanted to tell the world myself, not through a spokesperson. The last 18 months were the darkest phase of my life, and I wasn't in a state to talk to anyone. I know there were rumours that I was in rehab (for drug overdose), but I was in my Noida house throughout. The truth is I was suffering from bipolar disorder. It went on for 18 months, during which I changed four doctors, the medication wasn't working on me and crazy things were happening,' he said, pausing, but determined to reveal more. 'I must confess that I was bipolar and an alcoholic, which aggravated the condition.¡±
5. Pooja Bhatt Drug Addiction
Pooja Bhatt was once an alcohol addict but she pulled the plug in December last year and since then she has been sober for her father Mahesh Bhatt compelled her to think about her lifestyle. She also revealed that she started drinking at the age of 16, smoked her first cigarette at the age of 23 but never did cocaine.
¡°Alcohol is comforting, it colours your evening. It¡¯s a socially accepted narcotic even at business lunches and in the boardroom. Also, living in a fast-paced city, being in a high-stress profession, it becomes a reason to celebrate and cope with failure. Your film is a hit, you bathe in champagne, it flops, a single malt lessens the pain,¡± she told Mumbai Mirror.
¡°I had to quit now before I drank myself to the grave. I had to reclaim the sharper, brighter me which had got watered down,¡± she added.
6. Dharmendra Drinking Addiction
Dharmendra, during the promotions of Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, had confessed that his drinking problem is what led to the downfall of his career, but now he had quit it in 2011 keeping deteriorating health in mind.
¡°I don't drink these days. I had destroyed myself as an actor with my drinking habit in the past. I believe in humanity now and have learnt the business of filmmaking.¡±
7. Fardeen Khan Drug Addiction
Fardeen Khan was riding high on success in Bollywood when his drug addiction took over him. He was arrested with Cocaine in Juhu area of Mumbai in 2001 and had fought a long legal battle because of that.
¡°Any mind-altering substance whether it's narcotics or alcohol or prescription pills, creates a lethal dependency. Before you know it you're sucked into a downward spiral. The idea of any addiction is very damaging. People have all kinds of weird addiction, even shopping. My only addiction (now) is the love of my family. They're my life-supporting system. Please educate yourself vis-a-vis the consequences of whatever you are experimenting with. Addiction is not cool,¡± he told TOI.
While some of the Bollywood celebs have confessed about their drug addiction, there are others who were caught, arrested and are rumoured to be addicted to drugs and alcohol.

He was caught at the Dubai airport for possession of drugs in 2005.
