What Is Kohrra All About?

It is a suspense thriller that centres on the search for a missing British citizen and the murder of an NRI in Punjab. A young lad discovers NRI Paul's dead body in a farm and then calls the police. From then, the murder inquiry is launched by Sub Inspector Balbir Singh and Amarpal Garundi.

Paul had arrived in Punjab to get married, but he was killed just two days before the ceremony. When Paul's British friend/love interest Liam goes missing, the investigation takes many twists and turns. Numerous buried dark secrets of the investigators, Paul's parents, family disputes over land, jealously between cousins, and power struggles emerge.

Reading Between Lines, Literally!

Regarding the title's connection to the narrative, there are several elements that strengthen its meaning. While you may have heard the word "Kohrra" being used to describe the point of view of criminal suspects (specially the truck driver), it's crucial to remember that when Liam's father learns he's gay, he goes completely nuts and finds it difficult to accept that fact about his son. The mother, Rachel Shelley (of the film Lagaan fame), enters and explains to him how she always knew her son was gay. While explaining the truth about her son, Rachel tells her husband 'how can you be so blind'?

And this is how symbolically one can uphold "Kohrra": the father was so enmeshed in his ideals that he was unable to see through the thick fog and as a result, he never realized what his son truly desired.

When Balbir's daughter attempts suicide and he visits her in the hospital, she pours her heart out about how no one really understands what she wants and how she must live her life according to her husband and father, which is another heartbreaking scene that effectively justifies the title. Cut to a few scenes earlier, when Balbir dances to show how deeply aware of his misdeeds he is while maintaining a constant layer of denial that serves as a barrier between reality and truth.

The Supporting Cast

Not just Barun Sobti or Suvinder Vicky, it's also important to notice how the supporting cast helped the series succeed. As Nimrat, Harleen Sethi stands out and effortlessly portrays a weak yet strong persona. However, the Dhillon brothers, played by Manish Chaudhary and Varun Badola, are compelling and convincing, greatly adding to the appeal of the series in a limited time frame as a whole. Also giving a strong performance, Rachel Shelly (of Lagaan fame) brings her role to life with her superb acting skills.

The Whole Punjab & Drugs Connection

While drug use is a common theme in Punjabi crime films and television shows, this programme also touches on some of it. It demonstrates the general public's fascination and addiction with "Chitta," while outsiders demand cocaine from peddlers. Kohrra raises moral complexity, a land dispute, drug addiction, and many other issues in addition to the crime itself.

Barun Sobti And Suvinder Vicky¡¯s Applause Worthy Performance

Does It Take The Paatal Lok Road?

Co-creator Sudip Sharma, who is well known for critically acclaimed films and television programmes like "Paatal Lok" and "Udta Punjab," is successful in creating yet another evocative drama that probes deeply into the psyche of its protagonists. Is it, however, the "edgy" variety like "Paatal Lok"? No, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a captivating watch.

Additionally, if you're attempting to figure out how the story ends, just know that Liam was murdered in an accident, while Paul had his throat cut by Liam and his head bashed by a drug dealer.

Final Verdict

Kohrra is arguably one of the best series recently produced in terms of cast, direction, sets, soundtrack, and other aspects. As previously stated, the story goes above and beyond the discussion of just one topic, and the climax is unsettling.

A stunningly produced series with performances that merit applause. Slow burning but it burns well.
