Aamir Khan, the Dangal actor, has been in the spotlight for a while now. His upcoming film, Laal Singh Chaddha has been making a lot of headlines these days. The hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChadhha is currently trending on Twitter.
Internet users have been urging everyone to boycott the film, due to the star cast's previous controversial statements.
Mr Perfectionist has yet again made headlines for speaking out and blaming OTT platforms for Bollywood movies' poor box office performance.
Khan asserts that OTTs have altered peoples' preferences because of OTTs' unexpected growth after the pandemic. He further said that because there is so much available content, today's audiences are less forgiving and won't give you a chance if your screenplay is subpar.
He believes that with early access to the film on the OTT platforms, people prefer to view the film in the comfort of their homes instead of going to the cinema halls.
Earlier, Ram Gopal Varma also commented on the ongoing debate of OTT vs Theatre, where he tweeted ¡°The Argument about people not coming to theatres because of OTT is as dumb as saying, because u can get food at ur home, nobody will come to hotels and restaurants.¡±
Aamir Khan Blames OTTs
During Laal Singh Chaddha's promotion, Aamir Khan said in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, ¡°One of the reasons is that films come on OTT very fast. It¡¯s like telling an audience, ¡®Mat Dekho theatre mein. Main aa raha hoon tumhare ghar mein. Kyon ja rahe ho theatre? 2 hafta ruk jaao, main aa raha hoon¡¯ (laughs)! Hence, how can you expect people to come to cinemas? It is illogical. Hence, I have always tried to keep a six-month gap for my film as I understood this long back. I don¡¯t know what the industry follows.¡±
Aamir added that a film's failure to find an audience might also be due to the creator, actor, or director choosing not so relevant topic for the audience.
As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the actor further stated, ¡°As a filmmaker, main aapke emotions ko evoke kar raha hoon. Kabhi hasa raha hoon, kabhi rula raha hoon. Agar main Raju Hirani hoon, toh main aapko saath mein hasa raha hoon aur rula raha hoon! So that is what manipulation is and you end up enjoying the journey.¡±
Laal Singh Chaddha, his upcoming film, is a remake of the Hollywood movie Forrest Gump. The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Aamir Khan in the main lead.
