Barzakh to be pulled from YouTube: What went wrong with Fawad Khan's Pakistani drama? Netizens react
Pakistani drama Barzakh, which just got released in July, is nearing its end as makers have decided to pull out the show from Youtube Pakistan. It is the queer love scene in its third episode that has created the controversy and put pressure on the makers to do so.?
Starring Fawad Khan and Sana Saeed, Pakistan's TV series Barzakh, which started streaming in July, will be withdrawn from Youtube Pakistan after August 9, 2024. Wondering what went wrong? It is not the falling TRP of the show that led to this decision by the maekrs but the criticism from Pakistani audiences for its portrayal of queer love. The show has sparked controversy all over social media. The makers have released a statement announcing the show's last date.
Fawad Khan's Barzakh to be removed from YouTube: Here's all about the controversy
According to the statement by the makers, Barzakh will be withdrawn from "YouTube Pakistan, effective August 9, 2024." They said the decision has been taken to "honour our audiences without causing alienation."
Well, how did the LGBTQIA theme controversy start?
In the third episode of Barzakh, Saifullah (played by Fawad M. Khan) almost kisses another character named Lorendo in the show, played by actor Franco Giusti. The moment after the episode aired, a section of the audience called out the scene and asked to ban the show as soon as possible.
Since Pakistan is an Islamic country, a portion of its audience has criticised the fact that the show is endorsing LGBTQIA+ themes. Islam does not support LGBTQIA+ thoughts and themes.
