Does Murlikant Petkar still have a bullet lodged in his spine?
When the Indo-Pakistani War broke out, Petkar was serving in the Indian Army and suffered severe injuries.Petkar survived the war as one of the many wounded troops.
He was shot nine times, leaving him with physical disabilities that he has had to cope with ever since. One of those bullets is still in him, stuck in his spine. Eight bullets were successfully removed from his body by the surgeons, as depicted in the movie, but the ninth bullet is positioned in such a way in the spine that it may cause Petkar to become paralyzed throughout.

Did Murli get the Arjuna award?
Upon learning about Murli's tale, a journalist discovered that, for the simple reason that no documentation existed, Murli was never the recipient of the Arjuna Award. Following the terrorist attack, the 1972 Olympics were moved to Heidelberg; as a result, Murli's accomplishments were overlooked and never returned to India.

When the Ministry of Home Affairs learned of the story, they chose to bestow upon Murli the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honours, in recognition of his outstanding contributions and selflessness, rather than simply giving him the Arjuna Award.
