Isn't it ironic that well-known performer and actor Diljit Dosanjh was born in 1984, the same year that the Sikh Genocide took place? Diljit's most recent film, Jogi, has received a lot of praise, and the fact that it is based on the same massacre year as his's birth year feels fated.
The Actual Occurrence That Inspired Jogi
Indira Gandhi was slain by her two Sikh bodyguards. The subsequent events after the assassination were among the most heinous in modern Indian history. Her assassination sparked the 1984 Sikh Genocide.
The rights of more than thousands of Sikh people were violated over the course of three days while nearly 3000 Sikhs were murdered.
Congress politician Sajjan Kumar was sentenced to life in prison for his substantial role in the 1984 genocide during the investigation and after his conviction for murder and inciting violence. But it wasn't until 2018, more than three decades after the crimes, that this occurred.
Speaking with IANS about the event, The actor Diljit shares his view
Diljit recently altered the term used for the "Riot" to "Genocide" in an interview. The actor claimed that he grew up hearing tales of agony.
"'Genocide'... I was born in 1984, so I grew up listening to all these stories. I couldn't believe it. But when we grew up, saw and read then I got to know that this happened deeply. So, all those stories add up to the making up of the film."
He further added, "The story is real. It's not like we have made it up. It is not a fictional story. It is a real story. Like my birth is of the year 1984, so the people who have seen or heard, they can relate and the newer generation they will know what had happened."
When Questioned ¡®What exactly does friendship mean to Diljit?¡¯
The Actor replied, "The background is of 1984 and the story is based on that and the story is about three friends. I don't have many friends. I have not made many friends. And the friends I have I made in school are still there. They are also still working with me."
