Story¡¯s Plot Before We Jump On To The Dragons!
The Targaryen civil war, which occurred roughly 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones, and the Targaryen rule of Westeros are central to the storyline of House of the Dragon. It is common knowledge that the Targaryens are descended from the historic city of Old Valyria. As a result of their innate capacity to tame and ride dragons, the citizens of the long-since-extinct city were once referred to as "the blood of the dragon."
The first civilization to perfect the art of raising dragons was the Valyrians, who used them as a war tool to forge their own empire. Only the five dragons on the dragon stone are known to have survived the demise of Valyria.
Have you ever wondered how dragons enter the Targaryen House?
The House of Targaryen brought those five dragons with them when they went into exile from Valyria. Unfortunately, four of those dragons passed away on the dragon stone, leaving only Balerion on the black dread. The eggs, however, were left behind by the other dragons, and Vhagar and Meraxes, the dragons were born from those eggs.
The timeline in House of the Dragon depicts the Targaryen rule over Westeros following the use of these dragons to aid the Targaryens in capturing the Seven Kingdoms and annexing Westeros.
Here's a rundown of all the Dragons you'll see in House of the Dragon
1. Let¡¯s Start With The OG ¡®Balerion¡¯ The Black Dread
Balerion, the Black Dread is the largest dragon that has ever existed. Involved in the conquest of Westeros and the establishment of the Seven Kingdoms, Balerion was the dragon that Aegon - the Conqueror rode. Sadly, based on the trailer, it appears that we will only see Balerion's enormous skull inside the King's landing. As Balerion won't be alive at the start of House of the Dragon because he passed away under Jaehaerys, the king who reigned before Viserys, and the show starts under Viserys.
2. Rhaenyra Targaryen's Dragon - Syrax
Syrax, Rhaenyra's she-dragon, will play a significant role as she is the central character of the show. Syrax is bigger than most dragons despite not being as massive or fierce in battle as Caraxes. Syrax has beautiful yellow scales and Rhaenyra named her after a Valyrian goddess.
3. Daemon Targaryen's Dragon - Caraxes
The dragon Caraxes' scales are red-coloured, also called the Blood Wyrm, was ridden by both Princes Aemon and Daemon Targaryen. He was huge and imposing in the battles at the Dance of the Dragons. Caraxes was fearsome on the battlefield, thanks to his prior experience.
4. Aegon Targaryen's Dragon - Sunfyre
Despite being one of the show's younger dragons, Sunfyre still has a huge stature. Sunfyre is a formidable creature that is a key player in this civil war and has powerful golden scales. Sunfyre's golden flames, which appear to match the hue of his scaling, are one intriguing aspect of him.
5. Halaena Targaryen's Dragon - Dreamfyre
Rhaena Targaryen, the granddaughter of Aegon the Conqueror, once rode Dreamfyre, a she-dragon in a silvery blue colour. Eventually, Halaena Targaryen, Aegon II's wife, and the She-dragon formed a bond. In the first season, there's a chance that we'll run into Dreamfyre in the dragon pit.
6. Aemond Targaryen's Dragon - Vhagar
Vhagar, one of the three dragons that the Targaryens used to slay the Seven Kingdoms, is ridden by Aemond. Only Balerion can match Vhagar's size as one of the biggest dragons in Westeros. Bronze in colour, Vhagar has bright green eyes and green-blue highlights.
7. Hugh The Hammer's Dragon - Vermithor
While King Jaehaerys is very old, his former dragon mount Vermithor will still play a significant role in the show. King Jaehaerys is the grandfather of King Viserys. Vermithor, also known as the Bronze Fury, is a bronze dragon who was once the third-largest dragon in Westeros, trailing only Balerion and Vhagar.
8. Rhaenys Targaryen's Dragon - Meleys
King Viserys' cousin is Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. Meleys, like Caraxes, is a fiery red dragon, earning a nickname as 'The Red Queen'. The oldest and largest dragon after Vhagar is Meleys.
9. Daeron Targaryen's Dragon - Tessarion
The younger brother of Aegon, Daeron Targaryen, flies Tessarion, a she-dragon. Because of the deep cobalt blue hue of her wings, Tessarion is referred to as the Blue Queen. Tessarion also stands out from the other dragons due to the colour of her belly scales and claws, which contrast with the dark blue of the majority of Tessarion's body. She is one of the most beautiful dragons to look at.
What¡¯s The Future Of Targaryen Dragons?
Daenerys Targaryen receives three dragon eggs as a wedding gift from Khal Drogo more than two decades after the events of House of the Dragon. The eggs are allegedly mummified yet are still quite expensive. Daenerys becomes the proud mother of three newborn dragons when the eggs hatch; Drogon is thought to be a reincarnation of Balerion, Viserion, and Rhaegal. That concludes the history of dragons in the Targaryen world.
House Of The Dragon will premiere its first episode on 21st August On Disney+ Hotstar.
