Season 2 of Kleo is set in the year 1987. Actor Jella Haase plays German operative Kleo Straub, who assassinates a businessman in West Berlin while on duty with a clandestine Stasi commando. She is then shown being imprisoned on false charges and betrayed by everyone she knows. After her time in prison, the Berlin Wall falls, and Kleo gets released. The former spy realises that all she has gone through is part of a conspiracy against her. The series is basically Kleo's revenge journey against all those who have betrayed her.
