The story follows Stephen Nedumpally, who secretly controls a powerful international crime empire under the name Khureshi Ab'raam.

Set against a backdrop of political drama in Kerala and global criminal activities, the film explores themes like power struggles, hidden identities, and revenge.

Key characters include Zayed Masood (played by Prithviraj Sukumaran), whose personal journey for justice drives much of the action, and Balraj Patel, a character inspired by real-life events.

The movie also addresses sensitive topics such as communal violence, leading to a few scenes being altered after public criticism.

According to Firstpost, "L2: Empuraan has ample massy elements with plot twists, which will please all Mohanlal & Prithviraj Sukumaran fans."

Meanwhile, India Today describes it as "a fitting sequel to Lucifer," noting that "the film displays convenient writing but makes up with stunning visuals."

However, Times of India offers a more reserved view, saying "Empuraan doesn't quite match the punch of Lucifer."

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, the film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas Pvt. Ltd. and Sree Gokulam Movies, with project design by Prithviraj Productions. Sujith Vaassudev handles the cinematography, Deepak Dev composes the music, and Akhilesh Mohan is in charge of editing. Sound design is by M. R. Rajakrishnan, while action sequences are choreographed by Stunt Silva.

Art direction is led by Mohandas, with costumes by Sujith Sudhakaran and makeup by Sreejith Guruvayoor.
