Lal Salaam OTT Release Update: This sports drama directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth has been going through a difficult journey after its theatrical disaster. The Tamil film starring superstar Rajinikanth in a key role alongside Vishnu Vishal and Vikrant in the lead roles released in theatres on February 9, 2024. While its OTT release date is yet to arrive, Lal Salaam is confirmed to stream on Netflix.

Why is Lal Salaam delayed on OTT?

Despite high hopes, Lal Salaam failed to meet audience expectations during theatrical release and became a commercial disaster, grossing just Rs. 31.25 crore. The movie also addressed sensitive themes of religious strife and cricket, but it struggled to make an impact across both Tamil and Telugu markets. Now, almost a year later, despite anticipation and rumours, the film still hasn't made its way to OTT platforms.

A few months after the release, Director Aishwarya shed light on the delay in an interview and revealed that a critical hard disk containing essential footage from the film had gone missing. These lost scenes were integral to the movie, and Aishwarya hinted that had they been included, the film would have turned out differently. Fortunately, she later confirmed that the hard disk had been found, and the missing footage would be included in a new version of the film for OTT.

At this point, Aishwarya also mentioned that AR Rahman, who had worked on the film's music, would be providing additional background music for the newly added scenes. That time, it seemed like the OTT release was just around the corner. However, months passed, and there have been no further updates. Fans are hopeful that Lal Salaam will be able to drop on Netflix by mid-2025.
