Mickey 17 OTT release date
The release of Mickey 17 on digital platforms has been formally announced by Warner Bros. The catch is that, as of April 8, 2025, it will only be offered for purchase and 48-hour rental. It can be pre-ordered on Prime Video. On May 13, 2025, physical copies, including those in 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD format will arrive too. Additionally planned is a unique limited-edition Steelbook version, which will be issued at a later date.
Plot
On the icy colony planet Niflheim, Mickey 17 follows Mickey Barnes, a "Expendable" whose purpose it is to carry out lethal tasks knowing that he will be cloned with his memories intact after each death. Mickey, who is currently on his seventeenth life, disappears while on a mission, and a new clone, Mickey 18, is unintentionally triggered, causing two identical Mickeys to live simultaneously something that is very prohibited. Mickey is forced to consider his purpose, identity, and the real cost of being replaceable as they both fight to survive undetected and find a web of secrets and corruption within the colony's leadership.
Cast and crew
On the frozen planet Niflheim, Robert Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, also referred to as Mickey 17 and then Mickey 18, a throwaway worker who is on his seventeenth and ultimately eighteenth, incarnation. Nasha Barridge, portrayed by Naomi Ackie, is a devoted and tough security guard who develops into Mickey's romantic interest. Kenneth Marshall, portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, is a failed politician with a large ego who has evil plans for Niflheim. Kenneth's cunning and manipulative wife, Ylfa Marshall, is portrayed by Toni Collette. Steven Yeun completes the primary cast by portraying Timo, Mickey's dependable Earthly friend and a talented pilot. It has been written, produced, and directed by Bong Joon Ho and is based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton.
Box office collection
Variety reports that after two weeks of its run, Mickey 17 had brought in $35.7 million domestically and $92.2 million abroad. The movie was expected to make between $175 million and $180 million globally at the end of its theatrical run, which would include $52 million domestically and $123 million internationally. However, those figures were recently lowered to $143 million globally, which includes $46 million at home and $97 million abroad.
