Netflix Introduces 'Profile Transfer', Customers May Be Charged A Price For Sharing Passwords

Popular streaming service Netflix has announced the global roll-out of a tool called "Profile Transfer" to stop password sharing.

But, What Is Profile Transfer?

The largest streaming service in the world, Netflix, has unveiled a brand-new function called Profile Transfer. The function was created to let customers move their Netflix data, but it may also, to some extent, limit password sharing. This has been one of the most serious problems with the streamer, to the point that the corporation has blamed password sharing for the enormous reduction in subscriptions globally.

As explained by Netflix, 'Profile Transfer' is a tool that lets users of your account transfer a profile so that their new subscription will maintain their customised recommendations, watching history, My List, saved games, and other settings.

Netflix Will Charge Extra For Password Sharing?

Netflix mentioned in its earnings report, "Finally, we¡¯ve landed on a thoughtful approach to monetizing account sharing and we¡¯ll begin rolling this out more broadly starting in early 2023. After listening to consumer feedback, we are going to offer the 5, excluding China and Russia, where we don¡¯t operate. 6 ability for borrowers to transfer their Netflix profile into their own account, and for sharers to manage their devices more easily and to create sub-accounts (¡°extra member¡±) if they want to pay for family or friends. In countries with our lower-priced ad-supported plan, we expect the profile transfer option for borrowers to be especially popular.¡±

Netflix has not specified the fee that users would pay for revealing their passwords, but according to the sources, it will likely be between $3 and $4. It's interesting to note that Netflix subscribers who don't want to pay any additional fees can transfer their profiles using the streaming giant's new migration tool.

Here's How To Avoid Getting Charged For Password Sharing

Once Profile Transfer is available for your account, you will receive an email if you already have a Netflix subscription.

To modify your Netflix profile, follow these steps:

1. Open the Netflix app on your computer or smartphone.

2. Follow the guidelines after selecting the "Transfer Profile" option from the dropdown menu on the site when hovering over your profile icon.

3. You can turn off Profile Transfer in your account settings if you change your mind at any time.

In the first quarter of 2022, Netflix may have lost as many as two lakh subscribers, and the streamer expected that number to rise to two million in the second.
