Not Raj & DK's Best, But Gulshan-Adarsh Carry The 'Opium' Of Entertainment In 'Guns & Gulaabs'
Rajkummar Rao plays a mechanic in the show who is looking for true love while attempting to escape the clutches of his deceased mafia father.
Love Letters, Cassettes, Cycles And Opium!
The Family Man and Farzi, shows by Raj and DK, show that they are skilled at telling stories on screen. It is not the iconic Raj and DK series, but they have recently created the gangster comedy Guns & Gulaabs, which is well worth seeing.
Meet The Cast
The principal actors include Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Gulshan Devaiah, and Adarsh Gourav. The late Satish Kaushik, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Pooja A Gor, and TJ Bhanu were also cast members in Guns & Gulaabs.
Know About The Story
Rajkummar Rao plays a mechanic in the show who is looking for true love while attempting to escape the clutches of his deceased mafia father.
Adarsh Gourav is an unwanted cartel heir who is imprisoned in a life he doesn't know what to do with and trying to command a group of goons who don't take him seriously.
In the gangster comedy "Guns & Gulaabs," Dulquer Salmaan plays a police officer who at first acts morally upright but eventually becomes a cause of mayhem.
Now that you have a gist of the story, let's hop on to reasons why you should watch the show and what went south.
Why Watch Guns And Gulaabs?
The 90s Vibe
The show has being marketed as having a fantastic 90s vibe. And given this aspect, it does really meet up to expectations. A number of things, including the credits scene, haircuts, and clothing choices, went well. You'll see girls with neat braided hair, small-town garages, and children riding bicycles to school. It all fits together reasonably well and creates the proper 90s vibe but set in a fictional town.
Also, while a teenager listens to Bryan Adams at one hand, a grown up man groves to Jhankar beats and sometimes Kumar Sanu.
Gulshan Devaiah AKA Atmaram
Without a doubt, Gulshan Devaiah portrays Atmaram, the ridiculous but enigmatic contract murderer, as possibly the most enigmatic of all the key characters. His mysterious demeanor and of course wonderful acting sprinkled with the Sanjay Dutt look, just does everything right.
Adarsh Gourav¡¯s Impressive Performance
Adarsh Gourav portrays Jugnu, Ganchi's supposedly effeminate yet vicious son who seeks his father's approval. We all recognize him as a talented actor, and this time is no exception. Adarsh, often known as Chotu or Chota Ganchi (a moniker he despises), performs flawlessly. He succeeds in keeping his true identity a secret up until the very end and maintains his composure throughout. He wears a cloak of confidence until he can no longer do it because he is sick of having his father downplay him.
In addition, Dulquer Salmaan plays Arjun, a narcotics cop who isn't who he claims to be. He does a fantastic job and partially justifies his character, but I thought the script could have handled the difficulties he faced a little bit better.
Talking about Satish Kaushik, although his role as Sr Ganchi was very little, but he again proves that no matter how little time he gets on screen he will nail it. Thanks to his iconic work in the industry, the veteran actor will always be remembered.
What Did Not Work
It's A Bit Of A Drag In Parts
Let's face it: the present calls for a fast-paced story. It is very evident now that audiences prefer either a fast-paced plot or a slow burner, not anything that is in the middle, considering the short attention span. This one ended up being tedious in a few areas, in contrast to Raj and DK style. It gets a little annoying when characters take way too long to get to their point.
Kehna Kya Chahte Ho?
The show's abundance of bike chases, shootouts and running (a lot of running) can feel extremely random and aimless. After all the tortoise-like episodes, the final episode makes an effort to pick up a Rabbit-like pace and tries to make sense of everything.
Packed with the 90s vibe, Guns & Gulaabs is worth watching but we expected more.
