This Japanese live-action drama, starring Hayato Isomura and Ok Taec-yeon, will begin streaming on Netflix from August 28, bringing with it a decade-long love story that travels across countries and cultures.

The story begins in Berlin, where Ryu Narutaki (Hayato Isomura), a Japanese man running away from his past, finds himself alone and lost in a foreign land. Just when things look bleak, he is saved by Johan Hwang (Ok Taec-yeon), a Korean boxer carrying his own set of emotional scars. What starts as a chance meeting turns into something far deeper, a connection that words can¡¯t fully explain.

Their story unfolds over 10 years, taking viewers across Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo. But more than the locations, it¡¯s about what they carry within: the fear of opening up, the longing for someone who understands, and the beauty of love that refuses to fade, even with time, distance, or silence.

Directed and written by Shunki Hashizume (Scroll, More Than Words), Soul Mate is thoughtful, slow-burning, and real. Executive producer Dai Ota said in a media statement, ¡°The story, filled with life¡¯s joys and pains, combined with the exceptional performances from Isomura and Taec-yeon, will warm the hearts of viewers.¡±

Hayato Isomura (Extremely Inappropriate!, The Moon), who plays Ryu, expressed, ¡°The script moved me with its story of love amidst sadness and pain, and the incredible 10-year story arc crafted by director Hashizume has truly immersed me in the character. Working with Ok Taec-yeon has been inspiring; his charm draws me in more each day.¡±

Taec-yeon of Korean boy band 2PM (Vincenzo, La Grande Maison Paris) added, ¡°The character of Johan Hwang intrigued me, and his inner struggles and pain stayed with me long after I read the script. To prepare, I lost weight and underwent boxing training, and I¡¯ve continued to train diligently during filming to portray Johan as best as I can.¡±
