The Substance¡¯s plot summary
The story follows Elisabeth Sparkle, a former famous actress, who gets fired from her TV show on her 50th birthday because of her age. After a car accident, she is given a mysterious drug called "The Substance," which promises to make her look younger. When she injects it, her body transforms into a younger version of herself, and the two versions of her (the older and the younger) must switch every week.
The younger version, Sue, becomes a media sensation and lives a carefree life, while Elisabeth grows bitter and depressed. Over time, the two begin to resent each other, and Elisabeth's original body starts to age quickly due to the neglect of the switching schedule.
Eventually, Sue runs out of the stabilizer fluid that keeps everything stable, and things spiral out of control, leading to gruesome consequences. By the end, the story takes a dark turn, with a grotesque, mutated version of Elisabeth and Sue causing chaos, ultimately leading to Elisabeth's final, tragic end.
