The recently released, Three of Us is a moving, poetic journey through childhood memories starring Shefali Shah as Shailaja Desai, Swanand Kirkire as Shailaja's husband Dipankar, Jaideep Ahlawat as her childhood sweetheart, Pradeep Kamat.

It makes sense that the movie has received high appreciation from both reviewers and audiences. With merely excellent performances and minimal drama, the movie is simple and soothing.

What Is Three Of Us About?

Three Of Us transports us from Mumbai to the serene Konkan shore. Shailaja decides to fulfill her lifelong dream of returning to her childhood home of a small town after retiring.

Only after her dementia diagnosis, Shailaja realizes that she is in dire need of going back to her childhood home in order to relive memories and meet some special people.

What was Shailaja And Pradeep¡¯s Past?

Shailaja was reunited with her school classmate Gauri shortly after arriving in Vengurla. An old faded photograph of her classmates let her identify a few of her friends, and she expressed an extra eagerness to meet Pradeep Kamat. Pradeep worked at a bank, so she went there with her husband Dipankar. Even though Dipankar was clearly confused at the time and did not fully understand what he was seeing, he nevertheless decided to support Shailaja. Upon seeing his childhood romance after twenty-seven years, Pradeep was pleasantly delighted.

When Shailaja payed a visit to their school with Pradeep, Dipankar learns that the two have previously been together romantically. Despite this, he chooses to go along for the sake of his wife.

What Did Vangurla(Her Hometown) Hold For Shailja?

Three of Us eventually reveals that Shailaja lost her younger sister, Venu, in Vengurla. While playing a game of tug, Venu had somehow fallen into a well which traumatized Shailaja and the episode shakes her to the core even now.

The Conversation After Pradeep Found Out About Shailaja¡¯s Dementia

Shailaja's unexpected arrival made sense to Pradeep after he got to know about her dementia, and he was thankful that she came back to reminisce about her early years. Shailaja said she couldn't recall the last time she had gone to the Vengurla fair while they rode the giant wheel.

Pradeep recalled that they had all visited the fair with their friends. Deepika, a friend of Shailaja had said that Pradeep had bought flowers for Shailaja. After the incident, she refused to speak with Pradeep, claiming that the flowers were for everyone and she did not sit on the giant wheel with him that day.

The news that Shailaja and her family had left town (After Venu¡¯s accident) devastated Pradeep. Well, Even Shailaja did not know at the time that she would be leaving, otherwise she would have met him once.

Overall, Three Of Us demonstrates how a dementia-stricken woman is doing her hardest to preserve memories through pictures, videos, and a few notes, but she is having difficulty remembering the things that meant the most to her while also dealing with a traumatic past.
