Japanese manga series A Silent Voice was written and illustrated by Yoshitoki ?ima. Seven tank身bon volumes compiled its chapters. The manga was licensed by Kodansha USA for North American distribution and was made available digitally in English by Crunchyroll Manga. September 2016 saw the premiere of Kyoto Animation's theatrical version of an anime feature.

The frequent natural disasters in Japan served as the inspiration for the movie.

Japanese manga artist Jun Mayuzuki is the author and illustrator of the After the Rain series. It appeared in serial form in two different Shogakukan publications: Monthly Big Comic Spirits (June 2014每November 2015) and Weekly Big Comic Spirits (January 2016每March 2018). Ten tank身bon volumes were created by compiling its chapters. Akira Tachibana, a high school student, works part-time at a family restaurant and begins to fall in love with the 45-year-old manager, who is divorced and has a small boy.

The 2020 anime love fantasy film A Whisker Away was made by Twin Engine, Toho Animation, and Studio Colorido. The Japanese-language Netflix release of the film, which was directed by Junichi Sato and Tomotaka Shibayama, took place on June 18, 2020. When an odd girl changes into a cat to attract the attention of her crush, the distinction between human and animal begins to blur.
