5 Salman Khan films that disappointed at the box office: Will Sikandar change Bhaijaan's fortunes?
Salman Khan, who will next be seen in Sikandar, is going through a challenging phase on the work front as most of his recent films have not done as well as expected. Here is a look at five ¡®Bhai¡¯ films that disappointed at the box office.
Salman Khan is one of the most popular and sought-after stars in the Hindi film industry. The mass hero enjoys a strong fan following because of his engaging performances and striking screen presence. During his illustrious career, he has also starred in several blockbusters and proved his mettle.
However, the past few years haven't been as good as expected for the ¡®Sultan¡¯ of Bollywood. Some of his films have not lived up to expectations at. Moreover, his cameos in Singham Again and Varun Dhawan¡¯s Baby John too failed to deliver. As Salman¡¯s fans wait for the actor to strike gold again, here is a look at five ¡®Bhaijaan¡¯ flicks that underperformed at the box office
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023)
The action comedy, which revolved around a bachelor who lives with his brothers, hit screens on Eid amid much fanfare and opened to a good response at the box office. It, however, failed to keep the momentum going once the initial buzz faded. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan collected barely Rs 182 crore at the box office, failing to match even Ranbir Kapoor¡¯s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar¡¯s performance. The romantic comedy grossed Rs 220 crore in its run.
The Farhad Samji-helmed flick also received mixed reviews with critics praising the performances but panning the execution. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was shot on a budget of Rs 125 crore.
Tiger 3 (2023)
Salman Khan played the role of a secret agent in Tiger 3, which was part of the Yash Raj Films-backed ¡®Spy Universe' alongside War and Pathaan. Given the franchise¡¯s popularity, trade experts expected the film to gross at least Rs 1,000 crore globally and match the standards set by Shah Rukh Khan¡¯s Pathaan.
This, however, did not happen. Tiger 3 made Rs 466 crore during its run and ended up being an average grosser. Its budget was around Rs 300 crore. Tiger 3 received mediocre reviews with critics panning the screenplay. This prevented it from enjoying a long run.
Antim (2021)
Salman Khan had an extended cameo in the Mahesh Manjrekar-helmed action drama, which was based on the Marathi film Mulshi Pattern and focused on the underworld. Antim received decent reviews but failed to make a strong impact at the box office. It earned nearly Rs 60 crore during its run. This was a paltry figure given the Rs 40 crore budget and Salman¡¯s stardom.
Dabangg 3 (2019)
Dabangg is widely regarded as one of Salman Khan¡¯s finest action films. Its sequel too did reasonably well at the box office. Given the brand¡¯s popularity, trade experts expected Dabangg 3 to do a Sultan and cross the 500-crore mark. This, however, was not the case. The film received negative reviews and made an underwhelming Rs 230 crore during its run. Dabangg was shot on a budget of Rs 100 crore.
Tubelight (2017)
Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan¡¯s Bajrangi Bhaijaan emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2015 and grossed an amazing Rs 918 crore globally. Tubelight, their next collaboration, failed to reach these standards. The film, which was shot on a budget of Rs 100 crore, grossed only Rs 211 crore during its run. Moreover, most critics felt that the content was not as compelling as that of Bajrangi Bhaijaan .
Salman Khan, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of Sikandar. The AR Murugadoss-helmed action thriller features Rashmika Mandanna as the leading lady and marks her first collaboration with ¡®Hindustan Ka Bhai¡¯. Going by its teaser, it is likely to do justice to Salman¡¯s image and help him deliver a blockbuster.
Sikandar is set to hit the screens this Eid.
