Very recently, during a video interview, Deepika Padukone confessed for the first time that her depression resurfaced during the shoot of Chhapaak.
She went on to say,
¡°I needed to have my counselor on the sets of the movie with me. It came out of nowhere and I was also caught off-guard. I started feeling it coming on and I thought maybe I am just tired or it is the long hours. But then it got really bad and I started feeling claustrophobic. It was very tough for me emotionally. To think about those days and put me emotionally through that¡¡±
She also added that even during her wedding celebrations, the whole effect of playing Malti stayed with her and it was tough for her to let go of it.
After helming films like Talvar, Filhaal, and Raazi, Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak will be based on the real-life acid attack survivor of Laxmi, who at the age of 15, was attacked allegedly by a spurned lover in 2005.
Laxmi had to undergo several surgeries. Later, she took up the job of helping acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop such attacks. Her attacker, a 32-year old man, was an acquaintance of her family. Laxmi is a well-known advocate of stricter punishments in acid attack cases. The film is being co-produced by Deepika and Fox Star Studios.
