Emergency movie: Emergency, one of the most talked about films of the year is set to hit the screens on January 17. The political drama has created a fair deal of buzz among movie buffs as it features Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi and examines certain events that took place during her tenure as India¡¯s Prime Minister. Moreover, its intense trailer suggests that the film has the potential to help the Queen star showcase her abilities to the fullest.

Emergency went on the floors in July 2022. Its shoot was wrapped up in January of the next year. The film was originally set to release in theatres in 2023 but was postponed until June 2024.

However, it again failed to keep its date with the audience because of the Lok Sabha Elections. The makers then rescheduled it to September 6 but it ran into trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification. The film was eventually cleared by the CBFC on October 17, paving the way for a theatrical release. Emergency movie plot

Emergency is set in the period between 1975 to 1977 and explores the events that took place when Indira Gandhi had declared a state of ¡®emergency¡¯ throughout the country, which allowed her to 'rule by decree'. It features Kangana as the former Prime Minister but is not a biopic.

As such, the narrative will delve into the impact of Indira Gandhi's actions without exploring her formative years in great detail.

Going by the trailer, Emergency is likely to explore Indira Gandhi¡¯s equation with the likes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Shreyas Talpade) and Sam Manekshaw (Milind Soman). It will also feature powerful dialogues and several twists. Moreover, given the subject, it is set to have political undertones.

Emergency movie cast

Emergency features Kangana Ranaut in the lead and is one of the biggest films of her career. The National Award winner has also directed the film. This is her second directorial venture after Manikarnika (2019). Kangana is best known for her work in films such as Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, and Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

She is joined by Anupam Kher, who plays ¡®Lok Nayak¡¯ Jayaprakash Narayan. Kher has been an inseparable part of the film fraternity for several decades. His best-known films include Saaransh, Daddy, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

The cast of Emergency also includes Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Pardes star Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Satish Kaushik.

GV Prakash Kumar, best known for his work on films such as Amaran and Lucky Baskhar, and Arko have composed its songs. Sanchit and Ankit have provided the background score. Tetsuo Nagata and Rameshwar S Bhagat are the cinematographer and editor, respectively.
