'Empty theatre, fake collections': Divya Khossla Kumar accuses Alia Bhatt of rigging 'Jigra' BO numbers amid comparisons with 'Savi'
Divya Khossla Kumar has accused Alia Bhatt of rigging box office numbers of her latest film Jigra which had a lukewarm box office opening. Divya's dig comes days after she responded to claims that the Alia-starrer is a copy of her film Savi.
Divya Khossla Kumar seems to have taken a page out of Kangana Ranaut's book to lambast Alia Bhatt. Divya has accused Alia of rigging box office numbers, claiming she purchased tickets to showcase "fake collections¡± of Jigra. This comes amid claims of striking similarities between Jigra and Divya's film Savi.
Divya Khossla Kumar takes a dig at Alia Bhatt.
After allegedly accusing Alia Bhatt of plagiarism through her PR, Divya Khossla Kumar has taken a direct jab at the Jigra actor. On Saturday, a day after the film's release, Divya took to her Instagram Stories to share a photo of an empty theatre and wrote, ¡°Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theatre was empty ¡ all theatres going empty everywhere¡±.
She added, ¡°#Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra."
Savi, which was released in May, follows a housewife (Khossla) determined to break her husband out of a prison in England. The film also starred Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Rane. In Jigra, Alia Bhatt¡¯s Satya meticulously plans a jailbreak to bring back her wrongfully convicted brother (Vedang Raina) from prison. The film, released on October 11, had a slow start at the box office.
Divya on similarities between 'Jigra' and 'Savi'
Earlier, when asked about the similarities between Jigra and Savi, Divya stated that the plot between the two films is 'very similar' but added that each film follows its path. She said, "I would just like to say that with the love of the audience and the grace of God that 'Savi' has proved its worth totally on its own merits."
"We had a very good run in theatres and OTT too and we topped the charts in various countries. So, I¡¯m just thankful for all the love. And yes, our film was based on jailbreak-- how a simple housewife attempts a jailbreak to get her husband out of the prison. And even though 'Jigra' may be similar to it I feel every film has its journey to it and sometimes two production houses can make a film on a similar plot," she added.
'Jigra' Opening Day Box Office Collection
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra hit theatres on Friday, October 11, releasing across more than 3,000 screens in India. However, the film struggled on the Opening Day, earning only Rs 4.25 crore nett despite the extensive release.
