Jitendra Kumar¡®s Panchayat is coming back for another season and is scheduled to release on May 20th. The first season of Panchayat became a comfort show for many because of its nuanced narrative of a city dweller adjusting in a village.
Panchayat doesn¡¯t focus on a single plot point, it brings the day-to-day chores, a part of the plot and how these chores are so difficult for a city dweller who is new to life in a village.
As the second season is about to come, let¡¯s have a look at some of the highlights of the first season that made the show popular.
Phulera ki Haseen Zindagi
One thing that Panchayat excels at is showing a detailed village life, be it a whole episode on a tree being allegedly haunted or putting up posters related to family planning, the show knows how to grab those things that may seem trivial but they play quite a larger part in the society. Phulera is a town filled with all kinds of people and that is what makes the village life look so much more interesting. A sort of chemistry grows between Abhishek and the people in the village and that is a delight to watch.
Phulera ke Adbhut Log
Jitendra Kumar may be in the limelight of the show but he gets great support from the stellar cast. Be it, Raghubir Yadav or Chandan Roy, Panchayat was filled with extremely delightful performances by each and every actor. Neena Gupta in her limited screen space acted so well that her performance made us fall for her character. Apart from the great cast of the village life, Abhishek¡¯s friend Prateek played by Biswapati Sarkar also did an amazing job. Vaibhav Rajoriya¡¯s (aka Groom¡¯s friend in Episode 3) ¡°Gazab Bezati Hai¡± dialogue became a meme template that is still used very widely.
The simple yet engaging plot of the show
Abhishek is a newly passed out engineer and till he prepares for his CAT exams, he decided to take a job in a village as a secretary to the Panchayat head, to do all sorts of paper and written work. He hates the job yet he is introduced to new reasons every day to form a love-hate relationship with the village. The protagonist is stuck between crazy villagers and a tough lifestyle in the village and starts his job with the sole motivation of cracking the CAT exam and leaving the place for good.
The way Abhishek devises escape plans
Initially, the village is a prison for Abhishek and so he plans various ways to escape the place, and yet somehow he falls more in love with it. Although, Abhishek¡¯s characters has found different ways to love the life of a village yet it would be interesting to see how this tangent will turn out in the upcoming season. The last cliffhanger of the first season was really interesting and it may put a hold on all these escape plans but we have to wait and watch how things roll out.
A hope for love
The last season of the show ended with a ray of hope for Abhishek or should I say a ray of love? A new character is introduced right at the end of the season ignites a different kind of excitement and it would be really interesting to see how things turn out between the protagonist and probably his new love interest. Pooja Singh will play the role of Rinky aka Abhishek¡¯s love interest in the upcoming season.
The well-knitted characters
Characters in the show aren¡¯t just a part of a support for Abhishek¡¯s arc, they have their own journeys which are quite intriguing to watch. For example, a friend like Chandan is hard to find, and a father and husband like the character of Raghubir is quite relatable and fun to watch. The thing is these characters can stand alone to add a production value to the show and even at the moments when Abhishek isn¡¯t there in a scene, the supporting cast carries out the whole show on their shoulders quite beautifully.
The amazing background score
Another thing that really raises the bar of the production of the show is its background score. Anurag Saika¡¯s minimalistic and acoustic music acts as a great finishing touch for the show. A combination of styles ranging from rock to jazz was used cleverly in the show. A total of 16 tracks were used during this show and each one of them leaves a special effect on your mind. One of the songs in the show called Hiya Tho was very well-received by the audience for its soulful music.
