Ranbir's Onscreen Mom In Animal, Charu Shankar Is Just 1 Year Older Than Him; Reddit Is Baffled
Charu Shankar Who Played Ranbir Kapoor's Mother In Animal Is Just 1 Year Older Than Him And This Has Left Reddit Baffled.
If the headline made you think - ¡®She is an actor, she can play any role¡¯, let me know why older female actresses never play the character of a daughter or college-going girl. But 54-year older men continue to romance 24-year-old actresses.
Animal endorses age-gap fiasco and barely anyone is talking about it.
Apart from misogyny, violence and vulgarity, Ranbir Kapoor¡¯s recently released movie also reflects on the age imbalance between the reel and the real life of actors. Actress Charu Shankar is playing Ranbir¡¯s mother in the movie despite being just one year older than him.
Charu Shankar¡¯s age controversy in Animal.
If IMDb is to be believed, Charu was born on August 17, 1981, while Ranbir arrived in this world on September 28, 1982. In Animal, the 42-year-old Charu plays Jyoti B Singh, the wife of Balbir R Singh (played by Anil Kapoor who is 66) and mother of Ranvijay ¡°Vijay¡± Balbir Singh (played by Ranbir who is 41).
This has erupted a conversation on Reddit and people have several thoughts!
The conversation was started by a user who wrote, ¡°Charu Shankar is just one year older than RK yet she played his mother in Animal. A big facepalm.¡± Several users drew parallel to the fact that this is not a new thing in Bollywood, ¡°Shefali Shah was younger than Akshay when she played his mom in Waqt. That record is probably still untouched.¡± Read this thread for more reactions:-

Do you know Sandeep Reddy himself felt Charu Shankar was too young to play Ranbir¡¯s mother?
The Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway actress told Etimes, ¡°I got a call straight from the director¡¯s team early last year, but when I went to meet Sandeep, he was very polite and he said, ¡®Thank you for coming¡¯, but I think you are too young to play Jyoti in the later part of the film. At the time I had already shot for ¡®Rocket Boys¡¯.¡±
¡°So I showed him photos of myself as Indira Gandhi on my phone, saying ¡®I love the challenge of becoming that which I am not¡¯. He was quite taken aback when he saw those pictures, and he was like, ¡®Okay, well, it¡¯s quite something that you¡¯ve managed to achieve¡¯. Many months later, I got a call saying I had got the role.¡±
This is where the majority of female actresses surrender, in order to get work, to not speak a word against the long-running ageism in Bollywood.
