20 Years Of Badshah: 9 Reasons Why SRK's Cult Film Makes For A Fun Watch Every Single Time

He is known as the king of romance but my personal favourite genre to see Shah Rukh Khan in is comedy. Whether it was Chennai Express, Duplicate or a Happy New Year, King Khan truly knows how to rule the roost in the comic section as well.

One such movie that is our favourite comedy movies of SRK at all times is Badshah. But mind you, the movie is not just comedy, it has parts of action, unexplained science fiction and romance.

Here's taking a look at why Badshah continues to be an evergreen watch, even after 20 years.

1. Shah Rukh Khan as a detective who is mistaken for a CBI officer

10 years after making a debut in Bollywood, SRK indulged in an out and out action comedy film and we couldn't be more glad. Badshah played by SRK runs a detective agency. He tries hard to pass his agency off as highly sophisticated and constantly busy, he actually receives little business and is desperate for a big break. Until one day, he is accidental mistaken for a CBI officer as Badshah is also the name of another officer played by Deepak Tijori and then the comedy-drama unfolds.

2. SRK pulling off a blind person who is blatantly giving hints that he's not is bizarre yet hilarious

In of the scenes, SRK pretends to be blind in order to woo Twinkle Khanna and what transpires during that is one of the funniest times in the film. The tea cup clatter when he sees Twinkle changing clothes but pretends to unsee it is the highlight. Twinkle who plays Seema Malhotra then takes it upon herself to cure his eyes. The doctor happens to be Johnny Lever who is SRK's friend only decides to stretch the joke and gives him two different animals¡¯ eyes.

3. His goofy boy gang

SRK's detective agency comprises of his best friends who are also his colleagues played by Johnny Lever, Sudhir among other noted artists. They help portray Badshah as an important and famous detective.

It won't be wrong to call them the 'Le Le' gang or the Badhaa le friends. Yes, everytime Badshah was unsure of an idea, they would echo these sounds which almost sound like the representative of his subconscious.

4. An office which conveniently transforms into a hospital, detective room, bedroom as and when needed.

After this movie released, a lot of people actually wanted a three in one set up in their own households too. I secretly dreamt if I could switch between a toy house and my bedroom. This movie gave wings to imagination and didn't think twice before making hard to believe set ups. They had the skill to change their place of work into a lower middle class house, eye clinic, hospital, rich fairytale area in no time. They were better architects than private detectives for sure.

5. The unexplained science logic

Toffee which turns into a toffee 'bumb', techno shoes that turn into chipkali, yes SRK can be seen walking on the wall. And if that's not enough, CBI office presents Badshah with a fully gadgeted swanky car.

6. Lilly's special appearance

The X-Ray glasses and Lilly deserve a special mention. Isn't this pair of glasses every person's dream. As per this, SRK aka Badshah can see whatever lies under their clothes. At this time, CBI Dr. Rusi tells Lilly get behind the box. SRK's expression on wearing these and looking at Lilly truly has a separate fan base.

7. Deepak Tijori's wheelchair moves

Deepak Tjori has a small yet vital role. He propagates the entire plot because basically he is the original CBI officer Badshah who is supposed to get the above gadgets but people mistake SRK to be him. Despite that, SRK manages to get the job of both detective and secret agent pretty well. There's a moment in the film where both Badshahs are at the airport and Amrish Puri (villain ) sends his men to kill the CBI officer which they are successful in doing. However, they get confused when SRK checks in with the name, and they assume they killed the wrong guy. Badshah also finds Malhotra's fallen computer disk which helps him in cracking the case.

8. Rani and her boyfriend Moti are my favourite characters

Played by Deepshikha Nagpal and Sharat Saxena, the duo is on a killing spree. From killing Deepak Tijori to plotting SRK's murder in the film, they are comically conspiring and in the midst are even labelled as 'Kutta' by Amrish Puri.

9. Bachi who turns out to be the CM

Just like there were two Badshahs, there were two Bachis as well. One who is an actual kid who needs to be rescued from Goa and one is CM Bachchan whose life is under a threat. And in true SRK style, Baadshah saves them both and gets the love of his life too. Definitely a win win.

The movie has all the elements to make it a blockbuster. It showed SRK in a different avatar This was also the phase where he was experimenting as an actor. From A Dil Se, Duplicate, Mohabbatein and Badshah, SRK as gradually shifting focus and forming his wholesome brand. Well, is there anything he can't do! Thanks SRK for entertaining us and here's hoping we see a sequel of this epic film soon.
