Working As Watchman To Bagging Emmy Nomination, Here's A Look At Nawazuddin's Glorious Journey
Here's a closer look at Nawazuddin Siddiqui's journey. After years of struggle, he managed to crack it in the Indian film industry and there has been no looking back.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui might have lost out on an award today, but that doesn't mean his journey isn't rewarding enough. Steering clear of every challenge and shattering every stereotype that could exist in the film industry, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has always let his work speak for himself.
He has never minced his words- be it talking about the prevalence of nepotism or racism in the film industry or how he is scared of working with the Khans, Siddiqui has always had a brave take on things around him.
His struggle as an actor began in 1999 when he made his acting debut in Aamir Khan starrer Sarfarosh in a blink and miss appearance. In the same year, he also appeared in Shool, helmed by Ram Gopal Verma, and did minor appearances in Jungle (2000) and Rajkumar Hirani's Munnabhai MBBS (2003).
By the year 2007, he started getting more cameos and small parts; however, he remained just 'another' face in Bollywood. In 2009, he appeared in a cameo role in the song Emotional Atyachar from Dev D. In the same year, he appeared in New York (2009).
It was 2010 that changed Siddiqui's fate when he played a meaty role in Aamir Khan's Peepli Live.
There was no looking back for the actor. 11 years on, he represents India on a global level and has earned an Emmy nod for his country.
In a recent interview with India Today, Nawazuddin Siddiqui spoke about the time he was struggling for money and had to juggle between odd jobs for survival.
"I was a watchman when I first came to Mumbai. I also worked as a chemist when I was in Baroda, Gujarat. In Delhi, when I was doing theatre, I did odd jobs because of money problems. I still don't believe that I am a big actor. I want to be happy with my work."
Siddiqui, nominated for the best performance by an actor category for his Netflix movie "Serious Men", lost out to British star David Tennant.
What exactly happened at the International Emmy Awards this year?
Actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vir Das and Sushmita Sen-led series "Aarya" could not register a win at the 2021 International Emmy Awards.
Vir Das said it was "an honour" to represent the country at the awards ceremony.
Sharing a picture of his medal, a proud Das wrote:
"I was nominated for best comedy at the International Emmy Awards, for jokes. Call My Agent, a gigantic, beautiful show I love, won. But I got this medal and ate this fantastic salad with a very interesting crispy cheese topping. It was an honour to represent my country. Thanks so much to the @iemmys For India. It¡¯s always for India. #VirDasForIndia"
