While Banerjee agrees it was a "big break" for him, he was depressed because people had typecast him. Stree was released in 2018, and post that, he was only getting offers to play goofy characters. He did Dream Girl and Bala and everybody started offering him comic roles. When the Covid-19 lockdown hit, he was in a depressive phase. "I thought, ¡®Shit, nobody is going to imagine anything more for me.¡¯ Thankfully Sudeep Sharma imagined me as Hathoda Tyagi in Paatal Lok. He imagined that by watching Stree, so full marks to him," the actor was quoted as saying by News 18.

After the massive success of Paatal Lok and his character Hathoda Tyagi, the industry finally took him seriously as an actor. He recalled how people from the industry called him and told him, "Oh tu toh actor hai. Tu toh yeh kar sakta hai." However, he was typecast once again. Now, he was getting offers to play psycho characters. This time he took it as a challenge to prove his versatility and show everyone that he can do all genres. "I am very stubborn," he added.
Abhishek Banerjee is currently being lauded for his recently released movie Stree 2 and Vedaa, in which he plays distinct roles. While he plays a comic role in Stree 2, he portrays an antagonist in John Abraham and Sharvari starrer Vedaa.
